Call or Text (352) 722-5295Suspension on the 2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
These trucks are the last of the third-generation, steel-cab Super Duty, built on a frame that traces back to the 1999 design and powered by the second-generation 6.7L Powerstroke at 440 hp and 860 lb-ft. Up front, 4x4 trucks carry a solid twin-coil monobeam axle on coil springs, located by radius arms and a track bar, while 4x2 trucks use Twin-I-Beam with coils. Both get 1.38-inch gas shocks and a standard front stabilizer bar. Out back, every truck rides on leaf springs over a solid axle, again with 1.38-inch gas shocks. The rear stabilizer bar is standard on dual-rear-wheel trucks and optional in a package on single-rear-wheel trucks.
Ford offered a few packages that change what is under your truck. The FX4 Off-Road Package (4x4 only, not offered on the F-450) adds Rancho shocks, transfer case and fuel tank skid plates, and Hill Descent Control. The Heavy-Service Front Suspension Package upgrades the front springs, and the Camper Package adds a front spring upgrade, a rear stabilizer bar on SRW trucks and auxiliary rear springs on the F-250. Roll Stability Control, trailer sway control and hill start assist came standard on these years.
What wears and why
Most of the attention goes to the front end. On a 4x4 the solid axle is held in place by radius arms and a track bar, and the steering linkage moves with it. One 2016 F-250 owner reported 'death wobble' to NHTSA: violent front-end shaking at highway speed after a bump, bad enough to need hard braking to stop. That is a single complaint, not a documented pattern, but it lines up with the ball joint, track bar, tie rod and steering damper wear the aftermarket targets on 2005-2016 coil-sprung Super Dutys. That is why track bar bushing kits, a track bar bracket and an adjustable track bar sit in this collection next to the shocks.
One safety item if you already run an aftermarket steering stabilizer: Icon FSD 2.5 Centerline stabilizer kits for 2005-2021 F-250/F-350 4x4 trucks were recalled under campaign 20E090 for possible steering lock-up. Check yours if it applies.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
If the truck sits at factory height and does factory work, a stock-height shock and fresh track bar bushings put it back where Ford had it. Go aftermarket when the job changes. A leveling kit raises the front to sit even with the rear, and the fuller leveling packages pair the lift with caster correction and an adjustable track bar. A lift kit goes further and reworks the front suspension, with radius-arm or 4-link layouts and FOX 2.5 coil-overs in some kits. If you tow or carry a camper, Air Lift helper springs add adjustable support at the rear axle. Ford's own Camper Package put auxiliary rear springs on the F-250, so extra rear support is a factory idea. Traction bars tie the rear axle to the frame to control axle wrap on the leaf springs under the 6.7L's torque.

Fitment notes
Pin down three things before you order: drivetrain, rear wheel count and model year. 4x2 Twin-I-Beam and 4x4 solid-axle front ends share nothing. Single-rear-wheel and dual-rear-wheel trucks take different rear axles and different air spring kits. Leveling and lift geometry is shared back to 2005, which is why many kits read 2005-2016, but shocks and some steering parts are more year-specific, and the 2017-and-later aluminum trucks are a different fitment. The 2015 F-450 pickup got its own rear leaf springs, stabilizer bars and shocks, so check F-450 fitment line by line. Diesel and gas Super Dutys take different coil springs, so buy the diesel version of any spring or leveling kit. When in doubt, verify by VIN.
Frequently asked questions
Will a leveling kit listed for 2005-2016 fit my 2015 F-250?
For the leveling and lift hardware, generally yes, because the front geometry on the 4x4 trucks is shared from 2005 through 2016. Shocks and some steering parts are more year-specific, so read the years on each piece of the build. Nothing here should be assumed to carry over to the 2017-and-later aluminum trucks.
Do 4x2 trucks use the same front parts as 4x4 trucks?
No. The 4x2 trucks run Twin-I-Beam front suspension and the 4x4 trucks run a solid axle on coils with radius arms and a track bar. They share nothing up front, which is why Bilstein lists separate 2WD and 4WD front shocks.
What should I check if my truck shakes hard after a bump?
Start with the front end: ball joints, track bar, tie rods and steering damper. A 2016 F-250 owner described that kind of violent highway-speed shake in an NHTSA complaint, and those are the parts the aftermarket targets on these trucks. Have it inspected before buying parts; if the track bar is the culprit, the bushing kits and adjustable bar here cover it.
Which Air Lift kit fits a 2016 F-350 dually?
Air Lift publishes LoadLifter install guides for the F-250, F-350 and F-450 under PN 88396 (LoadLifter 5000) and PN 57596 (LoadLifter 7500 XL). SRW and DRW trucks take different kits, so confirm year, drivetrain and rear wheel count on the listing before you buy, or call and we will check it.
Can you install a lift or leveling kit at the shop?
Yes. We install everything we sell, in our own bays in Wildwood, FL, from a shock swap to a full 4-link lift. Call the number in the header to set it up, and have your VIN handy so we can confirm the parts before the truck comes in.
