The Bilstein 24-185776 is a B8 5100 Series front shock for 4WD trucks with a modest lift: 1994-2013 Ram 2500 and 1994-2012 Ram 3500 with the 5.9L or 6.7L Cummins at 0-2.5 inches, and 2005-2016 F-250/F-350 Super Duty trucks with the 6.0L, 6.4L or 6.7L Power Stroke at 4 inches. You buy it because a lifted front end needs a shock with the right range of travel.
Fitment
This is a front shock for 4WD trucks. Bilstein's application list:
- 1994-2013 Dodge Ram 2500 4WD - Front (Lifted 0"-2.5")
- 1994-2012 Dodge Ram 3500 4WD - Front (Lifted 0"-2.5")
- 2005-2016 Ford Super Duty F-250/350 4WD - Front (Lifted 4")
On the Ram side that covers the 12-valve 5.9L (1994-1998), the 24-valve 5.9L (1998.5-2002), the common-rail 5.9L (2003-2007) and the 6.7L Cummins from 2007.5 on, through 2013 on the 2500 and 2012 on the 3500. On 6.7L trucks, leveling and lift parts are chosen by the 2010-2013 versus 2014-and-newer 2500 split and the 2013-and-newer 3500 split, so a 2014-or-newer 2500 or a 2013-or-newer 3500 is not on this list. On the Ford side it covers F-250 and F-350 Super Duty 4WD trucks with the 6.0L (2005-2007), 6.4L (2008-2010) and 6.7L (2011-2016) Power Stroke. Earlier Ford trucks, including every 7.3L Power Stroke truck, are not on Bilstein's list, and 2WD trucks are not covered. Verify fitment by VIN or call us before you order. Lift height is suggested by Bilstein. Because there are so many different aftermarket suspension systems, take a measurement on your truck for proper application. A pin to eye shock is measured from the base of the stem where the mounting hardware rests to the center of the eyelet. Compare your number to the collapsed and extended lengths under Specifications.
Why this part
The 5100 Series is a high gas pressure monotube shock designed for lifted pickups, SUVs and Jeeps. It runs a 46mm digressive piston with self-adjusting deflective disc valving. Bilstein gave it the damping to handle heavy hauling or occasional off-road use while keeping a good street ride.
Lift is the reason to look at this shock. On 2003-2004 Rams, stock shocks do not have the proper range of movement once the truck is lifted, so longer shocks go in with a leveling kit. On those trucks, lifting the front also shifts weight rearward and drops the rear about 1/2 in, so plan rear height with the front. On 1994-2002 trucks, Bilstein shocks are one of the common suspension upgrades.
A shock is one piece of a sound front end. On the 1994-2002 Rams, death wobble has no single cure: the track bar, tires, alignment and the steering damper all contribute. If your truck wanders or shakes after a bump, check the track bar and ball joints when the shocks go in.

How do I know this shock fits my lift?
Bilstein's lift heights, 0-2.5 inches on the Ram and 4 inches on the Super Duty, are suggestions. Measure your truck, then compare it to the 14.88 in (378 mm) collapsed and 24.37 in (619 mm) extended lengths. Pin to eye is measured from the base of the stem where the mounting hardware rests to the center of the eyelet.
Do I get a pair?
No. Shock absorbers are sold individually, and the front takes 2 per vehicle, so order two.
Will it fit a 2WD truck or a 2014 Ram 2500?
No. This shock is listed for 4WD only, and the Ram application stops at 2013 on the 2500 and 2012 on the 3500. Call or text us your VIN and we'll check what fits.
