2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Exhaust Parts

This is the exhaust system collection for the 2020-2022 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 with the 6.7L Powerstroke. It runs from the valley-mounted manifolds and up-pipes back to the DPF-back tailpipe and tips. The one thing to know: all of the exhaust on this truck passes through a full aftertreatment train, so the parts you change are OEM-style pieces on the hot side or DPF-back pieces behind the DPF and SCR.

Exhaust System on the 2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

The 6.7L uses reverse-flow heads, so the exhaust ports face the valley instead of the fenders. Short manifolds and up-pipes feed a single variable-geometry turbo that sits between the banks. From there a cobra-head downpipe, a design Ford has used since 2015, drops down the back of the engine to the aftertreatment. That train is a diesel oxidation catalyst, a silicon-carbide DPF and an SCR catalyst dosed with DEF by a Bosch Denoxtronic-based system. The engine also runs two-stage cooled EGR and an integrated exhaust brake, and the DEF tank holds 7.4 gallons. 2020 is the year these trucks got the third-generation 6.7L, rated 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft in pickup form, along with the 10-speed 10R140. Whether you drive an XL work truck, a Lariat, a King Ranch, a Platinum, a Limited or a Tremor, the hot side under the hood is the same engine.

What fails and why

Manifolds and up-pipes. Thermal cycling, thin castings and weak hardware lead to manifold leaks and cracks across 6.7L years, mostly on high-mileage trucks and trucks that tow heavy. You hear it as a tick on a cold start that quiets as the engine warms. You see soot trails at the flanges, you feel slower spool, and you may smell something burning. Up-pipe leaks read the same way, so the two get checked and serviced together.

DPF regeneration. Short trips, long idle time and boost or intake leaks keep the truck from finishing a regen. The signs are a higher idle, a hot smell, worse fuel economy during regen events and DPF-load warnings. In extreme cases the truck goes into limp mode.

DEF and SCR faults. Degraded DEF, crystals at the dosing injector, damaged sensor wiring and exhaust leaks all set DEF/SCR/NOx faults, with codes such as P20EE for SCR efficiency and P207F for DEF quality. Ignore the countdown-to-derate warning and the truck drops to a 5 mph limp. Exhaust leaks are on that list, which is one more reason not to let a ticking manifold ride.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

On the hot side, the answer to a cracked manifold is an OEM-style casting. BD's recommendation is high-silicon ductile iron with thicker walls and flanges, which deals with the cracking without changing any emissions hardware. Put new hardware and gaskets in while it is apart. Behind the aftertreatment, a DPF-back system is the compliant upgrade. It replaces only the muffler and tailpipe section behind the DPF and SCR. MBRP states its S6289BLK does not affect emissions, needs no programming and installs on a stock truck, and it claims up to 18 hp, 28 lb-ft and up to 200 degrees F lower EGT from the DPF-back alone. Banks claims its Monster Exhaust 49795 has 82% less backpressure than stock downstream of the aftertreatment. If the truck runs right and you only want a different look or sound, a tip or muffler is the smaller job.

What we carry

MBRP makes up most of this page: Armor Lite, Armor Plus and Armor BLK filter-back systems in 4-inch and 5-inch, single and dual exit, plus universal mufflers, resonators, an exhaust adapter and a long run of tips. Banks Power adds the Monster Exhaust 49795, a 5-inch single exit. On the hot side you will find PPE exhaust manifolds and high-flow up-pipes, SPE Motorsport manifolds, up-pipes, machined flanges and EGT sensor adapters, and Dorman manifold hardware kits and an EGR cooler gasket kit. Mahle covers EGR, up-pipe and tailpipe gaskets plus downpipe V-band clamps. For the sensors, Alliant Power has a DPF pressure differential sensor and a particulate matter sensor, and XDP has an EGT sensor. BD Diesel brings an emergency engine shutdown, a remote-mount exhaust brake, a V-band clamp and an adapter flange, Mishimoto has heat wrap and a polished tip, and ATS Diesel Performance has a wastegate adapter. Fitment notes

Most DPF-back systems here are listed as 2017-2026 pickup fitments because the frame and aftertreatment location carried over. The 2023 and newer cab and chassis trucks and some F-450 configurations differ, so check cab, bed and SRW or DRW on each listing. Manifold and up-pipe parts for 2020-2022 are standard-output only; the 2023 and newer High-Output engine uses stainless manifolds and a different turbo. Watch the year range on sensors and gaskets too. The Alliant DPF pressure differential sensor and the Dorman EGR cooler gasket kit are listed through 2020, while the Alliant particulate matter sensor and the XDP EGT sensor cover 2017-2022. The F-350 through F-600 chassis cabs share this engine but are separate trucks, so make sure a listing names yours. When in doubt, verify by VIN.

Frequently asked questions

Will a DPF-back exhaust change the emissions equipment on my 2020-2022 F-250?

No. A DPF-back system bolts on behind the DPF and SCR and replaces only the muffler and tailpipe section, so the DOC, DPF, SCR and DEF dosing stay where Ford put them. MBRP states its S6289BLK does not affect emissions and needs no programming. Read each listing for the maker's own statement.

What does a cracked exhaust manifold sound like on the 6.7L?

The classic sign is a tick on a cold start that fades as the engine warms. Look for soot trails at the manifold flanges and expect slower turbo spool and sometimes a burnt smell. Up-pipe leaks show the same symptoms, so have both checked at the same time.

Why does my F-350 keep showing DPF-load warnings?

On the 6.7L, incomplete regens come from short trips, long idle time and boost or intake leaks. While it tries to regen you may notice a higher idle, a hot smell and lower fuel economy. Fix any boost or intake leak first, and know that a truck that only ever makes short runs is working against the regen cycle.

What do codes P20EE and P207F mean?

P20EE points to SCR efficiency and P207F to DEF quality. Common causes are degraded DEF, crystals at the dosing injector, damaged sensor wiring and exhaust leaks. If you ignore the countdown-to-derate warning, the truck limits itself to 5 mph, so deal with it when the message first shows up.

Do 2023 exhaust parts fit my 2020-2022 truck?

It depends on the part. DPF-back systems are mostly listed for 2017-2026 pickups, so they cross over. Manifolds and up-pipes are a different story: the 2023 and newer High-Output engine uses stainless manifolds and a different turbo, and 2020-2022 hot-side parts are standard-output only. Match the year range and engine output on every listing.
