2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Exhaust Systems

DPF-back exhaust systems for the 2020-2022 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 with the 6.7L Powerstroke. These bolt on behind the DPF and SCR, so the factory aftertreatment stays where Ford put it. Choose by pipe size, single or dual exit, and finish, then confirm cab, bed and SRW or DRW on the listing before you order.

DPF-back exhaust on the 2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

From the factory, exhaust leaves the turbo and runs through the diesel oxidation catalyst, the silicon-carbide DPF and the SCR catalyst with DEF dosing before it ever reaches the muffler and tailpipe. A DPF-back kit replaces only that last section behind the DPF and SCR. That is why the MBRP filter-back systems and the Banks Monster Exhaust on this page are the compliant way to change flow and sound on this truck. They are sold as 2017-and-later pickup fitments because the frame and aftertreatment location carried over.

What a DPF-back does

MBRP claims up to 18 hp, 28 lb-ft and up to 200 degrees F lower EGT from its DPF-back alone. It states its S6289BLK does not affect emissions, needs no programming and installs on a stock truck. Banks claims its Monster Exhaust 49795 has 82% less backpressure than stock downstream of the aftertreatment. Install is bolt-on: MBRP's 4-inch kit needs no welding, takes about 1.5 to 2 hours and ships with a 4x5x15 tip.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

If your factory muffler and tailpipe are in good shape and you are happy with them, nothing here is required for the truck to run right. A DPF-back system is an upgrade for flow, sound and looks, not a repair. If all you want is a different look, a tip or tip cover is the smaller job. For stock repair, Mahle's F32820 gasket seals the joint between the intermediate pipe and the tailpipe and is listed for 2011-2023.

Fitment notes

DPF-back systems for this truck are typically sold as 2017-2026 pickup fitments, and the individual MBRP listings end at 2024, 2025 or 2026 depending on the part, which covers every 2020-2022 truck either way. The 2023 and newer cab and chassis and some F-450 configurations differ, so check cab, bed and SRW or DRW on each listing. MBRP lists the S6289BLK for any cab and bed with a single outlet. Chassis cabs are separate trucks from the pickups, even with the same engine. When in doubt, verify by VIN, and browse other trucks in our exhaust section.

Frequently asked questions

Does a DPF-back exhaust need programming?

Not the MBRP S6289BLK: MBRP states it needs no programming and installs on a stock truck. A DPF-back system bolts on behind the DPF and SCR, so the aftertreatment stays in place. Read each listing for the maker's own statement.

Should I pick single or dual exit?

It is mostly about looks, since both bolt on behind the aftertreatment. MBRP offers Armor Lite, Armor Plus and Armor BLK finishes in its 4-inch line, with dual exit versions in the S6290 series, so you can choose the finish first and the exit second. The Banks 49795 is a 5-inch single exit.

Is 4-inch or 5-inch the better choice?

Both are DPF-back systems that leave the aftertreatment alone. The 4-inch MBRP line gives you the most choice of finish and exit, and MBRP's 4-inch kit ships with a 4x5x15 tip. If you want 5-inch, look at the MBRP S62930 systems or the Banks Monster Exhaust 49795.

Will a DPF-back sold for a 2018 fit my 2021?

Usually, if the listing covers 2017-2026 or similar. The frame and aftertreatment location carried over, which is why these systems are sold across those years. Still check cab, bed and SRW or DRW, since some F-450 configurations differ.
