Call or Text (352) 722-5295Exhaust on the 2019-2024 RAM 6.7L Cummins
The 2019 redesign gave the Cummins a new cast exhaust manifold with elongated bolt holes, feeding a Holset HE300VG variable-geometry turbo that sits between cylinders 4 and 5. From the turbine, exhaust runs through the downpipe to the DOC and DPF canister, past the DEF injector, through the SCR catalyst and out a single tailpipe. Ram put cooled EGR, a DOC, a DPF and SCR with DEF on every 2019-2024 pickup. The DPF cleans itself by regenerating, and on this engine that's done with post-injection inside the cylinders, not with a separate injector in the exhaust. That's why fuel dilution of the oil comes up in maintenance talk on these trucks. The exhaust brake isn't a separate valve either. It's the VGT closing its vanes, and the factory smart mode will hold a downhill speed you set. Ram also changed the exhaust attachments for 2019 as part of its noise and vibration work on the new truck.
What fails and why
Most exhaust-side trouble on this generation lives in the aftertreatment, not the pipe. DEF injectors crystallize and NOx sensors fail, setting codes like P204F, P2048, P2049, P20EE and P2BAD. Old or off-spec DEF speeds that up, and trucks that idle a lot or run short trips see it more. The usual signs are SCR efficiency codes and DEF use that's way too high or drops to zero. On the DPF side, owner guides put a normal regen at roughly every 300 to 500 miles. Some 2020 2500 owners reported regens every 30 to 60 miles, and that was handled with software and cleaning. Watch for long cranks, power loss, constant regen messages and codes P2002, P242F or P2463. EGR valves are reported to stick from soot and oil sludge, and EGR coolers can crack internally; rough idle, black smoke, white smoke and coolant loss are the signs there. Leaks happen too. One 2021 owner reported a hole in the flex section between the engine and the DPF that let exhaust into the cab. That's an isolated report, but if you smell exhaust inside, get the truck looked at.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
On the back half of the system, a filter-back kit is both the repair and the upgrade. The compliant route for this platform is DPF-back only, and the Banks 5-inch Monster and the MBRP 5-inch S61640409 filter-back are the documented systems. A DPF-back kit replaces the factory muffler and tailpipe section behind the SCR. The DPF and SCR assembly stays right where it is, and so does your factory exhaust brake. Banks builds its Monster from 409 stainless, claims up to 9% lower backpressure at the turbine inlet, and states no CARB EO is required because every piece of aftertreatment is retained. Up front, a stock-style repair means a fresh manifold gasket set and new studs or bolts. If the manifold is coming off anyway, the ATS Pulse Flow manifold built for 2019-2024 trucks is the upgrade option.
What we carry
MBRP makes up most of this collection: Armor Lite and Armor Plus 5-inch filter-back systems, 4-inch and 5-inch 409 stainless universal mufflers, Quiet Tone mufflers, resonators, a universal exhaust adapter, and a long list of tips in rolled, straight-cut, angle-cut, turndown and black hex styles. Banks Power Monster Exhaust kits come in a 5-inch SRW version and the 49808 single-exit DRW version. For the hot side there's the ATS Diesel Performance Pulse Flow exhaust manifold, MAHLE exhaust manifold gasket and head gasket sets, Gator Fasteners heavy-duty manifold stud kits in black oxide or chrome, and Dorman 03417B manifold bolts. BD Diesel supplies a remote-mount exhaust brake, a T3-to-T4 manifold adapter flange and a V-band clamp. PPE stainless tips, Mishimoto heat wrap and a 6-inch polished tip, and a Shibby Engineering harness plug kit round it out. You can browse every brand on our main exhaust page.
Fitment notes
Exhaust fitment on these trucks comes down to cab, bed and rear wheels. Ram built 2019-2024 pickups as Regular Cab 8-foot, Crew Cab 6-foot-4, Crew Cab 8-foot and Mega Cab 6-foot-4, and DPF-back systems are specific to cab and bed length. The MBRP filter-back systems here list Mega Cab short bed and Crew Cab long bed. The standard Banks Monster kit is single rear wheel only, so a 3500 dually needs the DRW-specific kit. DPF-back parts carry over from 2019 through 2026 on Banks and MBRP listings, but the 2025 refresh changed the engine-side exhaust, so don't assume manifold parts cross over. Chassis cabs (3500, 4500 and 5500) use different DEF tanks and pumps, and their EGR parts can differ too. When in doubt, verify by VIN.
Frequently asked questions
Will a DPF-back exhaust keep my 2019-2024 Ram compliant?
A DPF-back system bolts on behind the SCR and leaves the DPF, SCR and the rest of the factory aftertreatment in place. Banks states its Monster DPF-back needs no CARB EO for exactly that reason. Every complete system in this collection is a DPF-back kit.
Does an aftermarket exhaust change how my exhaust brake works?
No. On the 2019-2024 Cummins the exhaust brake is the turbo's variable vanes closing down, and it stays stock with a DPF-back. Using it regularly also exercises the vanes, which helps keep them from sticking.
How often should my 6.7L Cummins regenerate?
Owner guides put a normal regen at roughly every 300 to 500 miles. If you're getting regen messages constantly, along with long cranks or power loss, have it scanned for codes like P2002, P242F or P2463. Some 2020 2500 owners with very frequent regens had it fixed with software and cleaning.
Do I need a different exhaust kit for a 3500 dually?
Yes. The standard Banks Monster kit fits single-rear-wheel trucks only, and a dually needs a DRW-specific kit. This collection carries the Banks 49808 single-exit kit listed for 2019-2024 DRW trucks. Check the cab and bed callout on any MBRP system too.
What usually causes SCR efficiency codes on these trucks?
DEF injector crystallization and failed NOx sensors are the common causes of P204F, P2048, P2049, P20EE and P2BAD on this generation. Old or off-spec DEF makes crystallization worse, especially on trucks that idle or run short trips. Keep your DEF fresh at 32.5% urea and never run the tank dry, which protects the DEF pump.
