Call or Text (352) 722-52956R140 parts for the 2017-2019 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
The 6R140 TorqShift behind the 6.7L Powerstroke is a 6-speed automatic with an aluminum case and Ravigneaux planetaries, built at Ford's Sharonville, Ohio plant. Factory service calls for MERCON LV fluid and a Motorcraft FT187 filter, with a published fluid and filter interval of 150,000 miles. Total fluid capacity is about 17.4 to 18.5 quarts. Beyond routine service, the parts owners reach for on this transmission are deep pans, torque converters, pressure controllers and valve-body parts, plus auxiliary coolers for towing.
What fails and why
- Converter clutch wear: shudder at steady cruise, rpm flare under load and lazy lockup, worst on higher-mileage, tuned or heavily loaded trucks.
- Valve body bore wear and sticking solenoids: harsh or erratic shifts, delayed engagement into Drive or Reverse, and codes P0776 and P2701 at high mileage. Bore repairs and solenoid replacement are the usual fix.
- Heat: limited stock cooling and converter slip lead to over-temp warnings, a burnt fluid smell and limp mode on grades when towing heavy.
- Electrical: TCM and solenoid-pack faults cause erratic shift timing, persistent limp mode and a Service Transmission message at any mileage.
What we carry
- Fluid: Motorcraft XT10QLVC MERCON LV, Hot Shot's Secret Blue Diamond and ADRENALINE fluids and Shift Restore additive, and Lucas Oil 10418 multi-vehicle ATF.
- Filter and gaskets: the BD Diesel 1064046 filter service kit, the MAHLE W32602 6R140 pan gasket and the MAHLE B33590 transfer case gasket.
- Pans: the PPE heavy-duty cast aluminum deep pan, the SPE Motorsport 6R140 deep pan, the Mishimoto MMTP-F2D-11 cast aluminum pan and the Mag-Hytec F6R140 pan.
- Coolers: Mishimoto MMTC-F2D-17SL and SPE S100359 coolers for 2017-2019, Mishimoto universal coolers, BD Xtruded auxiliary and double-stacked coolers, the BD electric cooler fan and the SPE S100223 line kit.
- Converter and controls: the BD Proforce 4D torque converter, BD 6R140 pressure controller and LED kit, BD pressure enhancer solenoid, BD interlocking pressure plate kit, the SPE S100128 solenoid body and the ATS Diesel Performance Co-Pilot Tow Edition.
- Flex plates: XDP Tow Series and billet flex plates, the XDP bolt kit, and BD and ATS billet flex plates.
Fitment notes
Most 6R140 parts here are listed 2011-2019 because the transmission carried over, while the Mishimoto and SPE direct-fit coolers are listed 2017-2019 only. The MAHLE B33590 transfer case gasket lists 1999-2017 coverage, so 2018-2019 owners should confirm it by VIN. On 4x4 trucks the transfer case takes MERCON LV as well, about 1.9 to 2.0 quarts. Universal coolers need a mounting spot and line routing planned before install. Verify any part with the fitment checker on the product page.
Frequently asked questions
Which fluid in this collection is right for a 6R140?
Look for MERCON LV on the label. Motorcraft XT10QLVC and Hot Shot's Secret Blue Diamond Dexron VI & Mercon LV are labeled for it. The collection also carries fluids built to other specs, so read each listing before you buy, and never use the MERCON ULV meant for 2020-up trucks.
What fixes codes P0776 and P2701?
On the 6R140 those codes point to valve body bore wear and sticking solenoids. Bore repairs and solenoid replacement are the usual fix, and the SPE S100128 solenoid body is made for 2011-2019 6R140s. Rule out TCM and solenoid-pack electrical faults first, since they also cause erratic shifts and limp mode.
Should I start with a deep pan or a cooler?
If heat is the problem, start with cooling. Overheating under heavy towing comes from limited stock cooling and converter slip, and an auxiliary cooler in series with the stock liquid-to-liquid cooler is the direct upgrade for 2017-2019. A deep pan can go on any time the pan comes off for a filter service.
