Every 2017-2019 6.7L Powerstroke uses the 6R140 TorqShift 6-speed, and Ford specifies MERCON LV for it. On 4x4 trucks the transfer case takes MERCON LV too, about 1.9 to 2.0 quarts. The published fluid and filter interval for the 6R140 is 150,000 miles, and Ford's filter is the Motorcraft FT187. Fluid is also the first thing to check after hard towing. The 6R140 can overheat under heavy towing because stock cooling is limited and converter slip adds heat, and that shows up as over-temp warnings, a burnt fluid smell and limp mode on grades.
How to choose
Start with the spec on the label. Motorcraft XT10QLVC is MERCON LV from Ford's own parts brand, and Hot Shot's Secret Blue Diamond Dexron VI & Mercon LV is labeled for the same spec. Those are the straightforward picks for the 6R140 and the transfer case. This collection also carries fluids named for other specs, such as Blue Diamond Type F, Blue Diamond ATF+4/Dexron III/Mercon V and Blue Diamond G56 Severe Duty SAE 50. Those are for other equipment, not the 6R140. For the ADRENALINE Nano Shift, Speed Shift and Pro Shift +4 fluids, the Lucas Oil 10418 multi-vehicle ATF and the Shift Restore additive, read the product listing and confirm MERCON LV compatibility before it goes in your truck.

Fitment notes
MERCON LV is for the 6R140 in 2011-2019 trucks. MERCON ULV is for the 10R140 in 2020-up trucks. If you run both generations, keep the jugs labeled and separate. Buy enough for the job you are doing, keeping in mind the published total capacity of about 17.4 to 18.5 quarts. If you are not sure which fluid a listing covers, call us before you pour.

Can I use MERCON ULV in my 2017-2019 6.7L?
No. MERCON ULV is specified for the 10R140 10-speed that Ford introduced for 2020. Your 6R140 takes MERCON LV, and the two should not be crossed.
