Every 2017-2019 6.7L Powerstroke uses the 6R140 TorqShift 6-speed. Ford's factory filter for it is the Motorcraft FT187, and the published fluid and filter interval is 150,000 miles. Total fluid capacity is about 17.4 to 18.5 quarts. A filter service is only as good as the fluid that goes back in, and for this transmission that means MERCON LV.
Why it matters on this truck
Heat is what hurts a 6R140 that tows. Limited stock cooling and converter slip can overheat it under heavy towing, and the signs are trans over-temp warnings, a burnt fluid smell and limp mode on grades. If your truck has been through that, don't wait on the mileage interval to look at the fluid and filter. Clean fluid at the right spec is the simplest protection this transmission gets.

How often should I change the 6R140 filter?
The published fluid and filter interval for the 6R140 is 150,000 miles. Overheating under heavy towing is a known 6R140 problem, so a truck that works hard deserves a closer eye on fluid condition than the interval alone gives it.

Ford's filter for the 6R140 is the Motorcraft FT187. The BD Diesel 1064046 service kit is available in this collection. Either way, refill with MERCON LV.
Can I refill with MERCON ULV after a filter change?
No. MERCON ULV is the fluid for the 10R140 in 2020-up trucks. The 6R140 in a 2017-2019 truck takes MERCON LV, and the two should not be crossed.
