The SPE Motorsport S100359 is a direct-fit replacement transmission cooler for 2017-2019 Ford Super Duty trucks with the 6.7L Powerstroke and 6R140 six-speed. SPE added 37% to the cooler's overall thickness and extra layers of core fins, and says that lowers transmission temperatures by approximately 20-25 degrees. It is built for trucks that tow and haul heavy.

Fitment

Fits 2017-2019 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty trucks with the 6.7L Powerstroke and the 6R140 transmission. SPE's compatibility list:

  • 2017-2019 Ford F250
  • 2017-2019 Ford F350
  • 2017-2019 Ford F450
  • 2017-2019 Ford F550

It does not fit 2020 and newer trucks. Those use the 10R140 10-speed, and transmission coolers do not cross the 2020 split; the cooler also moved from the secondary coolant loop to the primary loop for 2020. SPE lists this part for 2017-2019 only, so 2011-2016 trucks are not covered here. Verify fitment by VIN or call us. More Powerstroke cooling and transmission parts are in our shop.

Why this part

Overheating is one of the leading causes of transmission failure, especially when towing or hauling heavy loads. On the 2017-2019 6.7L, the factory transmission cooler is a compact liquid-to-liquid unit on the secondary, low-temperature coolant loop, and it has its limits when you tow or haul heavy, with high trans temps on long grades. The 6R140 can overheat under heavy towing from limited stock cooling and converter slip, which shows up as trans over-temp warnings, a burnt fluid smell or limp mode on grades.

SPE's answer is a cooler constructed the same as the factory unit, so it holds up to harsh environments and heavy use, but with an enhanced core design and additional layers of core fins. Adding 37% to the overall thickness of the cooler increases flow and cooling, and SPE says it brings transmission temperatures down by approximately 20-25 degrees. Cooler fluid extends the life of your transmission and keeps it performing under demanding conditions, whether you are towing cross-country or working the truck hard.

Frequently asked questions

Does this replace my factory cooler or add a second one?

It replaces it. The S100359 is a direct-fit replacement constructed the same as the factory unit, just 37% thicker with more layers of core fins.

Will it fit my 2020 F-250?

No. 2020 and newer trucks use the 10R140 10-speed, and coolers do not cross the 2020 split. This cooler is for 2017-2019 trucks with the 6R140.

What fluid do I use if I need to top off after the install?

The 6R140 takes MERCON LV. Do not use MERCON ULV, which is the fluid for the 2020+ 10R140.
