2017-2019 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Flex Plates

Flex plates and hardware for the 2017-2019 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty with the 6.7L Powerstroke and 6R140 TorqShift. The flex plate bolts the crankshaft to the torque converter, so all of the engine's torque goes through it. The practical time to replace it is when the transmission or converter is already out.

Flex plates on the 2017-2019 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

On the 6.7L Powerstroke, the flex plate connects the engine to the 6R140's torque converter. The 2017 pickup makes 925 lb-ft and the 2018-2019 pickup makes 935 lb-ft, and the 6R140 behind it is rated for 1,400 lb-ft of input. These trucks carry the high-capacity torque converter Ford introduced in 2015. The flex plate carries all of that torque, and it does the job every time you pull a heavy trailer away from a stop.

Tow series vs. billet

The flex plates here come in tow-duty and billet styles. The XDP XD660 Tow Series is built around towing duty. The billet plates, XDP XD652, BD Diesel 1041245 and ATS 305-900-3368, pair naturally with a built transmission or an upgraded converter. A billet plate makes the most sense when you are installing a complete 6R140 package or a new converter. The Tow Series suits a truck that works for a living. Since the flex plate is only reachable with the transmission out, replacing it during a converter or transmission job saves doing the labor twice.

Fitment notes

These flex plates are listed for 2011-2019 trucks with the 6R140. For 2020 Ford switched to the 10R140 10-speed and revised the 6.7L itself, including a new steel crank, so do not assume a 2017-2019 part fits a newer truck. The XDP bolt kit's listing runs to 2021; confirm it for your year. Verify by VIN with the fitment checker on the product page.

Frequently asked questions

When should I replace the flex plate on a 6R140 truck?

The practical time is when the transmission or torque converter is already out, since that is the only way to get to it. If you are installing a BD Proforce 4D converter or a complete 6R140 package, add a flex plate and new bolts to the job so you are not pulling the transmission twice.

Do I need new flex plate bolts?

XDP offers the XD657 bolt kit for this application, listed for 2011-2021 6.7L trucks. Fresh hardware makes sense any time the plate is coming off.

Will a 2017-2019 flex plate fit my 2020 Super Duty?

Don't assume it. Ford changed to the 10R140 10-speed for 2020 and revised the 6.7L, including a new steel crank. The plates here are listed for 2011-2019, so check the product page for your exact year.
