Suspension components on the 2007.5-2009 Ram 6.7L Cummins

Your 6.7L Cummins truck rides on the same third-gen chassis as the 2003-2009 HD Rams. The 4x4 front axle is solid, carried on coils and located by a four-link and one track bar. Out back are leaf springs with overload leaves. The wear parts on that layout are the track bar, ball joints, control arms, sway bar end links, shocks and hub bearings.

What fails and why

The stock track bar causes the most trouble. Thuren Fabrication ranks it as the primary death-wobble cause on these trucks because of its rubber bushings and bent, flexy design. Watch for a violent shake after a bump, wander, and a clunk from the bar. Rebuilding the stock bar with new bushings does not fix it. Ball joints are the other early failure. End links and shocks are on the same wear list, so check them whenever the front end is apart.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

For a truck at stock height, matching shocks and fresh end links are a straight service job. Once you level or lift, the shocks have to match the new height; a lift up to 3 inches calls for new coils, shocks and a track bar. In the rear, air bags are the common upgrade for heavy towing, and traction bars add a link between the rear axle and the frame.

Fitment notes

These are chassis parts, so titles often cover 2003-2009 or 2003-2013 rather than the 6.7L years alone. The 2WD trucks use an independent front end, which changes front shock and link fitment. The 2500, the 3500 and dually trucks use different rear spring packs, so match helper springs and rear parts to your truck. The BD 1032130 traction bar kit is listed for trucks without air suspension. When in doubt, verify by VIN.

Frequently asked questions

Which component should I replace first if my Ram has death wobble?

The track bar. An adjustable or heavy-duty bar is the first fix, and new bushings in the stock bar will not do the job. The BD Diesel 1032013-F adjustable bar is in the main suspension collection for this truck; the 16mm bushing sleeve for it is here.

Bilstein B6 4600 or B8 5100: which one do I need?

Both series are listed for these trucks, and the part number changes with front or rear and with 2WD or 4WD. Pick by ride height. If you have leveled or lifted the truck, choose a shock built for that height, since a lift up to 3 inches calls for new shocks along with coils and a track bar. Check the product page for the height each part number is meant for.

Are the Wehrli universal traction bars complete?

Read the titles. The WCF100854 and WCF100855 are listed as 60 and 68 inch traction bar kits, the WCF100837 and WCF100839 are listed as the bars, and the WCF100842 is the bracket and hardware install kit. The WCF207-26 bushings and heims are the service parts. Check each product page for what is in the box.

Do Air Lift helper springs fit both the 2500 and the 3500?

Not always with the same part number. The 2500, 3500 and dually rear spring packs differ, so the kit has to match your truck. The LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate 88255 is listed for 2007.5-2024 Cummins trucks; run the fitment checker for the others.
