2007.5-2009 Dodge 6.7L Cummins Shocks

Shocks for the 2007.5-2009 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 6.7L Cummins: Bilstein B6 4600 and B8 5100 series, plus Fleece low-profile shock mounts. Shocks are one of the normal wear parts on these trucks. Pick by position, drivetrain and ride height, since a 4x4 and a 2WD use different front ends.

Shocks on the 2007.5-2009 Ram 6.7L Cummins

A 4x4 Cummins Ram of these years rides on a solid front axle located by a 4-link and a track bar, with coil springs up front and leaf springs out back. From the factory it sits about 3 inches nose-low. Shocks are on the wear list along with the track bar, ball joints, control arms, sway bar end links and hub bearings, and the track bar and ball joints are the documented early failures.

Shocks will not fix death wobble

If the front end wanders, clunks or goes into a violent shake after a bump, start with the track bar. Suspension specialists rank the factory bar, with its rubber bushings and bent shape, as the primary cause of death wobble on these Rams; new bushings alone do not fix it, and an adjustable or heavy-duty track bar is the first part to buy. Tires come into it too: the same specialists rank tire construction third. Fresh shocks help ride and control, but they are not the cure.

Stock height or lifted

On a stock-height truck, match the shock to the position and drivetrain in the title. If you are leveling the front, a 2 to 3 inch level needs coils, shocks and a track bar, keeps the stock control arms, and the rear drops about half an inch as weight shifts back. Past 3 inches you also need control arms, longer brake lines and possibly driveline work. Buy shocks for the height the truck will actually sit at.

What we carry

Bilstein B8 5100 series shocks for 4WD trucks, front (24-187213, 24-066464, 24-185776) and rear (24-186636, 24-191203, 33-187228), and B6 4600 series shocks: 24-186070 front and 24-186094 rear for 4WD, and 24-186087 rear for 2WD. Fleece Performance Engineering FPE-LPSM low profile shock mounts are listed for 1994-2012 Cummins Rams.

Fitment notes

Most shocks here are 4WD fitments. 2WD trucks use a different front end, so a 4WD front shock is not for them; the B6 4600 24-186087 is the 2WD rear option. Several titles also list 5.9L, Duramax or Power Stroke years; go by the Cummins years and drivetrain in each title. Rear spring packs differ between 2500, 3500 and dually trucks, and options change weight, so measure your truck before you buy for a lift.

Frequently asked questions

Will new shocks cure death wobble on my Ram?

No. The factory track bar is ranked the primary cause on 1994-2013 Rams, and replacing its bushings alone does not fix it. An adjustable or heavy-duty track bar comes first, and tire construction ranks third. Shocks are a wear item worth replacing, just not the fix for wobble.

Do I need different shocks after leveling the front?

Yes. On these trucks a lift or level up to 3 inches needs coils, shocks and a track bar, while the stock control arms are fine. Pick shocks sized for your new ride height and check the rear, which drops about half an inch when the front comes up.

Which shocks fit a 2WD Ram?

On this page, the Bilstein B6 4600 24-186087 is listed for the rear of 2003-2012 2WD Cummins trucks. The 4WD front shocks here will not fit, because 2WD trucks use a different front end. Call us for help with the front.
