The front end follows the same plan on both trucks: a solid axle on progressive-rate coils, held in place by two radius arms and a track bar, with a stabilizer bar and Frequency Response Damping (FRD) shocks. Behind the cab the trucks part ways. The 2500 runs a five-link coil rear with a rear track bar, while the 3500 uses two-stage leaf springs. Either truck could be ordered with rear air. On a 2500 the air springs replace the coils; on a 3500 supplemental air bags assist the leaves. Every part on this page is built around one of those layouts, so know which one sits under your bed.
What wears out
On this chassis the main wear parts are the track bars, the FRD shocks, the radius-arm bushings and the ball joints. Front track bar bushings are widely reported as the top cause of wander, clunks and death wobble, and on 2500 coil trucks the rear track bar bushings wear as well. Worn ball joints show up as clunking, wander and uneven tire wear. Whatever you replace, torque the bushing bolts with the truck at ride height.
What we carry
Bilstein handles the damping side, with shocks in the B6 4600, B8 5100, B8 5160 and B8 8100 series, including a B8 5100 rear shock for the 2500 that Bilstein lists as an anti-wrap, power-hop shock. Air Lift covers load support: LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate helper spring kits, LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus stainless steel upgrades, air compressors, a WirelessOne tank upgrade kit and air hose. WCFab supplies universal traction bars in 60-inch and 68-inch lengths, a bracket and hardware install kit, Dodge/Ford universal traction bar kits, and replacement bushings and heims. For the sway bar, you get a front link disconnect kit from BDS Suspension, an end link kit from BD Diesel and a sway bar spacer kit from Banks Power.
Fitment notes
Rear parts split three ways: 2500 coil, 3500 leaf, and factory-air trucks of either kind. Bilstein lists separate rear shocks for trucks with and without air leveling suspension, and the 2500 front B8 8100 shocks are sold as left and right. Most shock listings are 4WD, with one rear shock listed for the 2WD 2500. The 2023-2024 Rebel, which offered the Cummins, rides on Power Wagon structure with factory Bilstein shocks and needs parts listed for it. Many listings cover years beyond 2019-2024, so check the range and verify by VIN.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a different rear shock if my truck has factory air?
Yes. Bilstein lists rear shocks separately for trucks with and without air leveling suspension, and the 3500 has its own listing for trucks with factory air. Check the air-suspension note in the title before you order.
Which front-end parts wear out on these trucks?
The front track bar bushings are the most reported trouble spot. Ball joints, radius-arm bushings and the factory FRD shocks are the other main wear items. Wander, clunks and uneven tire wear are the usual signs, so start at the track bar if the truck wanders or shakes after a bump.
Are the WCFab traction bars a complete bolt-on kit?
That depends on the listing. The universal 60-inch and 68-inch bars are sold on their own, with the bracket and hardware install kit as a separate item, while the Dodge/Ford universal traction bar kits are sold as kits. Read each listing for what is in the box, or call us with your cab, bed and rear suspension and we will help you choose a length.
