2007.5-2009 Dodge 6.7L Cummins Fuel System Parts

This is the fuel system catalog for the 2007.5-2009 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 6.7L Cummins: lift-pump and filtration systems, injectors, CP3 pumps, rail parts, injection lines and additives. The one thing to know: the Bosch CP3 on this engine is a tough pump, so most fuel work on these trucks is filters, lift-pump supply and injectors, not the high-pressure pump.

Fuel system on the 2007.5-2009 RAM 6.7L Cummins

The 6.7L Cummins replaced the 5.9L common-rail in mid-2007, and these trucks were still badged Dodge Ram. Fuel starts at an in-tank electric lift pump, which pushes it to a single canister filter mounted on the driver side of the engine. From there the gear-driven Bosch CP3 builds rail pressure up to about 26,000 psi and feeds a common rail and six solenoid injectors with 7-hole nozzles. A water-in-fuel sensor (Mopar 68065610AA, used from 2007 through 2023) lives in the filter housing. There is only one engine filter on these trucks; the frame-rail second filter did not arrive until 2013.

The CP3 is the same pump family used on the 5.9L, and it has a good record here. That is why the trouble spots on this platform sit upstream of it: the lift pump and the filter. When something goes wrong, look there first.

What fails and why

Filter neglect is the top preventable fuel problem on the 6.7L. Chrysler calls for the engine fuel filter every 15,000 miles or 12 months, or sooner if the dash warns you. Let it go and you get loss of power, rail pressure codes and a water-in-fuel light.

The factory lift pump is the other weak link. It is a single gerotor unit with limited flow margin. Fleece, which builds a replacement module, ties it to low rail pressure codes (P0087), hard starts after the truck sits, stumbling under load and problems that get worse below a quarter tank. Owners often notice it first when towing, once fuel demand climbs. A rail pressure code on this truck is a reason to check supply before you price a pump or injectors.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

If your truck is stock and runs right, stock-grade parts are the right call: the correct filter on schedule, remanufactured or new stock-flow injectors when they wear out, and a reman CP3 if the pump ever does quit. Genuine Cummins injection lines, the fuel rail and the rail pressure sensor are here for the same owner.

Upgrades make sense when you tow heavy or the truck needs more fuel than the factory supply gives. A frame-mount FASS or AirDog system adds a water separator and a fine filter ahead of the factory canister. Further downstream, Fleece builds modified CP3s, including the 10 mm PowerFlo 750, for trucks that outrun stock rail pressure at high rpm, and S&S Diesel Motorsport builds 6.7L injectors on brand-new bodies from stock flow up to +500%. Build the supply side first; bigger pumps and injectors only raise the demand on it.

Fitment notes

Confirm the truck is a 2007.5 or later 6.7L and not an early-2007 5.9L; the engine and fuel parts changed with the engine swap. Fuel filter elements differ between 2007-2009 and 2010-2012, and 2009 trucks got an updated housing and element, so confirm the filter by VIN. Lift pump modules split 2005-2009, 2010 and 2011+; your truck takes the 2005-2009 module. A 2013+ two-filter kit does not apply to these one-filter trucks. Injectors split by body style: pickups take 2007.5-2012 listings, while Cab & Chassis trucks take separate 2007.5-2010 listings. The 4500/5500 chassis cabs ride a different chassis, and most pickup parts do not interchange. When in doubt, verify by VIN.

Frequently asked questions

Is the CP3 a weak point on the 2007.5-2009 6.7L?

No. It is the same gear-driven Bosch CP3 family used on the 5.9L, and most fuel work on these trucks is filters, lift-pump supply and injectors instead. Because the 6.7L already runs a CP3, there is no CP4-to-CP3 conversion to buy; those kits are for 2019 and newer trucks.

How often should I change the fuel filter?

Chrysler specifies every 15,000 miles or 12 months, or when the dash warns you. Diesel Hub lists the 2007-2009 element as Mopar 68061634AA or Fleetguard FS43258. Because 2009 trucks got an updated housing and element, confirm the part by VIN before you order.

What are the signs of a weak lift pump?

Low rail pressure codes such as P0087, hard starting after the truck sits, stumbling under load and symptoms that get worse below a quarter tank. Towing is often when it first shows up. Rule out an overdue filter before you replace the pump, since filter neglect causes some of the same symptoms.

Should I replace the injector feed tubes when I replace injectors?

Yes. The connector (feed) tubes should be replaced any time the injectors come out. We carry them from XDP, Dynomite Diesel and S&S Diesel Motorsport, along with seal kits and hold-down bolts.

Will a 2010 fuel part fit my 2009?

Often not. The lift pump module for 2007.5-2009 trucks is the 2005-2009 part, not the 2010 one, and fuel filters split between 2007-2009 and 2010-2012. Check the year range on each listing and use the fitment checker, or call us with your VIN.
