The 2020 model year brought the third-generation 6.7L Powerstroke and the TorqShift 10R140 10-speed automatic to the Super Duty at the same time. On diesel trucks the 10R140 is run by its own transmission control module, separate from the engine computer, and that TCM is what a monitor reads for gear position and transmission temperature. The engine side reports boost, DPF regeneration status, DEF data and exhaust gas temperature where the PCM provides it, all over the same OBD-II port. That means you can see what the truck is doing without changing how it runs. A data-only monitor like the Edge Insight CTS3 reads the stream and does not alter the factory calibration, so your Powerstroke keeps Ford's programming and its emissions equipment stays exactly as built.
Why owners add a monitor
There is no common failure point on the monitors themselves for this truck. The value is early warning. Towing is the big one: one 10R140 transmission guide suggests keeping transmission temperature under about 220°F when you tow. A screen in your line of sight makes that number easy to track on a long grade with a trailer behind you. The second reason is aftertreatment. Interrupted regens and a steady diet of short trips lead to DPF load warnings, and DEF trouble shows up as a countdown before the truck derates. If you can see a regen running, you can let it finish instead of cutting it short. If you see a DEF countdown early, you have time to deal with it before it limits power.
Factory gauges vs. an added monitor
The factory cluster covers the basics. An added monitor makes sense when you tow heavy, haul a camper, or want several readings on one screen at once. If you only want the data the truck already reports, a plug-in OBD-II monitor is the simple route: it connects at the diagnostic port and displays the stream. If you want readings the truck does not broadcast on its own, Edge's accessory system adds sensors, such as an exhaust gas temperature kit or a pressure sensor, that feed the monitor. Either way, the tune and the emissions hardware are untouched.
What we carry
This section is built around Edge Products. The Edge Insight CTS3 84130-3 is a digital gauge monitor for gas and diesel vehicles with an OBD-II port, and it plugs into the 2020-2022 Super Duty at the diagnostic connector. For more channels, the Edge EAS EGT Kit 98620, sold as the Daily Driver/Tow Kit, adds an exhaust temperature reading, and the Edge EAS Pressure Sensor 98607 adds a 0-100 PSI pressure input. To put the screen where you can see it, the Edge 18601 A-Pillar Display Mount is made for 2017-2022 6.7L Powerstroke trucks. If you run a traditional round gauge instead, the SPE Motorsport S200122 vent gauge mount holds a 52mm gauge in a dash vent on 2017-2022 6.7L trucks.
Fitment notes
The 2020-2022 trucks share their interior with the 2017-2019 Super Duty, so pillar and vent mounts listed for 2017-2022 fit them. The 2023 and newer fifth-generation truck has a different interior and does not share those mounts. The Insight CTS3 is a universal OBD-II monitor, so it is not tied to one truck, but a vehicle-specific mount stays with the interior it was made for. Check that any EAS sensor you order is supported by the Edge monitor you run. When in doubt, verify by VIN or call us, and we can install it in our Wildwood, FL shop.
Frequently asked questions
Does a monitor change how my 6.7L Powerstroke runs?
No. The Edge Insight CTS3 84130-3 reads data through the OBD-II port and does not alter the calibration. Your engine keeps its factory programming and its emissions equipment. Unplug it and the truck is just as it was.
What transmission temperature should I watch for when towing?
One 10R140 transmission guide suggests keeping the transmission under about 220°F when towing. On diesel trucks the 10R140 has its own TCM, and that is what the monitor reads for trans temp and gear. If the number keeps climbing on a long grade, ease off and give it time.
Can I see DPF regen and DEF status on a monitor?
The 2020-2022 6.7L reports aftertreatment data, including DPF regen status and DEF data, over the OBD-II port, and plug-in monitors can display it. Watching it helps you let a regen finish instead of interrupting it, and it gives you an early look at a DEF countdown before a derate. The exact parameter list depends on the monitor, so check the product details.
Do I need the EGT kit if the truck already reports exhaust temperature?
Monitors show EGT where the PCM reports it. The Edge EAS EGT Kit 98620 adds a dedicated exhaust temperature reading through Edge's accessory system, so you are not limited to what the truck broadcasts. Edge sells it as the Daily Driver/Tow Kit, which tells you who it is aimed at.
Will these mounts fit a 2023 Super Duty?
No. The pillar and vent mounts in this section are listed for 2017-2022 trucks, and the 2023 redesign brought a new interior that those mounts do not fit. The Insight CTS3 itself is sold as a universal OBD-II monitor, so the screen can move to a newer truck even if the mount cannot.
