2003-2007 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke Transmission Parts

Service and repair parts for the 5R110W TorqShift behind the 2003-2007 Ford F-250 and F-350 with the 6.0L Powerstroke: fluid, filters, pans, coolers, flex plates, sensors, solenoids and rebuild components. The detail to get right on this truck is the filter setup, because 2003-2007 TorqShift units use a bypass filter in addition to the main filter.

Transmission parts for the 2003-2007 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke

The service parts list for a 6.0L Powerstroke TorqShift is short: Mercon SP fluid, the main filter plus the 2003-2007 bypass filter, a pan gasket, the solenoid pack and the torque converter. For fill, Hot Shot's Secret lists approximately 7.5 quarts, and the actual total capacity is higher than that figure. Past routine service, this collection carries the coolers, pans, flex plates and rebuild components that help a hard-working TorqShift stay healthy or bring a tired one back.

What to check before you buy

Two patterns are worth knowing before you order anything. First, on high-mileage units a worn TCC control valve lets the converter slip or cycle in and out of lockup, with P0741 or P1783 stored. The fix is the correct-year valve assembly, since 2003-2004 and 2005-and-later valves differ, and a retaining clip installed wrong sets P1744. Second, many transmission faults on these trucks are electrical. Clean and test the body and engine grounds before you replace solenoids or sensors; one documented 2007 F-350 lost its transmission pump to electrolysis after its corroded body grounds read over 20 ohms.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

OEM-style parts make sense on a stock truck doing normal work: a filter kit, fluid that meets the Mercon SP spec, a replacement pan and a fluid temperature sensor. Upgrades start where the truck works harder than stock. A heavy-duty aluminum deep pan adds fluid capacity, an auxiliary cooler gives the fluid more room to shed heat, and billet shafts, Build-It kits and billet flex plates go in when the transmission is already apart for a rebuild.

What we carry

  • Fluid: Hot Shot's Secret transmission fluids and Shift Restore additive, plus a Lucas Oil multi-vehicle ATF.
  • Filters and pans: the Mag-Hytec F5R110 pan and 5R110 filter, a PPE heavy-duty aluminum deep pan with its matching deep filter, BD filter service kits and a Mishimoto pan.
  • Coolers: a Mishimoto 6.0L-specific transmission cooler, radiator and transmission cooler bundles and universal coolers, plus BD Diesel Xtruded auxiliary coolers and a universal cooler fan.
  • Flex plates: XDP Stock+ and Billet Tow & Race flex plates and a bolt kit, plus a BD billet flex plate.
  • Rebuild parts: BD Stage 1 and Stage 4 Build-It kits and a billet input shaft, plus the ATS Diesel Performance 5R110 master rebuild kit and billet input and intermediate shafts.
  • Sensors and the rest: an Alliant Power transmission fluid temperature sensor, an XDP modified direct clutch solenoid, a MAHLE transfer case gasket and a torque converter.

Fitment notes

Read the year range on every listing. Early 2003 Super Dutys were still 7.3L trucks with the 4R100, so a few 7.3L-era parts live here, including the Mag-Hytec E4OD/4R100 pan, BD's 1994-2003 filter kit and an ATS 4R100 intermediate assembly; they are not for a 6.0L. BD and Mishimoto split several parts at 2003-2004 and 2005-2007, and the TCC control valve changed for 2005 as well. PPE's deep filter is listed for trucks with PPE's deep pan. Parts listed for 2003-2010 cover 6.4L trucks too, but the 2008-and-later units carry their own calibration and service parts, so don't stretch a listing past the years it names.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need for a complete TorqShift fluid and filter service?

Plan on Mercon SP fluid, the main filter, the bypass filter used on 2003-2007 units and a pan gasket. Hot Shot's Secret lists approximately 7.5 quarts, but total capacity is higher, so order with some margin. BD's 1064045 filter service kit is listed for 2003-2010 Power Stroke trucks.

Why are there 7.3L parts in a 6.0L collection?

Because 2003 was a split year. Early 2003 Super Dutys still had the 7.3L and the 4R100, and the 6.0L with the 5R110W TorqShift arrived partway through the model year. Parts listed for 1994-2003 or 1999-2003 are for those early trucks, so check your VIN before ordering.

Do I need an auxiliary transmission cooler?

It depends on how hard the truck works. Extra cooling capacity is what these coolers are for, so trucks that tow heavy are the usual candidates. Mishimoto's MMTC-F2D-03SL is listed specifically for the 2003-2007 6.0L; the universal coolers from Mishimoto and BD leave the mounting location and line routing to you.

Should I rebuild my TorqShift or buy a complete unit?

That depends on what's wrong inside it. If it comes apart for a rebuild, this collection has BD's Build-It kits, the ATS master rebuild kit and billet shafts for the job. If the case or hard parts are too far gone, complete BD and ATS transmission packages are in the Complete Transmissions collection. Rule out the TCC control valve and the grounds before you decide either way.
