2003-2007 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke Flex Plates

Flex plates and hardware for 2003-2007 Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks with the 6.0L Powerstroke and the 5R110W TorqShift automatic, from XDP and BD Diesel. The flex plate ties the crankshaft to the torque converter, so the time to replace or upgrade it is while the transmission is already out of the truck.

Flex plates for the 2003-2007 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke

On an automatic 6.0L Powerstroke, the flex plate bolts to the back of the crankshaft and the torque converter bolts to the flex plate. Every pound-foot the engine makes passes through it on the way into the 5R110W TorqShift, a transmission Ford rated at 1,000 lb-ft. Getting to the flex plate means pulling the transmission, so it makes sense to deal with it during a transmission rebuild, a converter replacement or a complete transmission swap.

Stock+ or billet

XDP's Stock+ Series flex plate (XD641) is the stock-style choice in this group, as the name suggests. For trucks that tow heavy or work harder than stock, the billet options are XDP's Billet Tow & Race Series (XD649) and the BD Diesel 1041242 Billet Flex Plate. Pick the one that matches how the truck is used and what else is going into the transmission. If you're installing a built transmission or converter, ask the builder what they recommend.

Fitment notes

These parts are for the automatic. Manual 6.0L trucks use the ZF S6-650 six-speed with a clutch and flywheel, not a flex plate. Confirm your engine by VIN, too: early 2003 Super Dutys were still 7.3L trucks with the 4R100, and these flex plates are listed for the 6.0L. The XDP bolt kit is listed through 2010, which covers 6.4L trucks as well, but the flex plates themselves are listed for 2003-2007 only.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a billet flex plate on my 6.0L?

Not every truck does. If the TorqShift and converter are stock and the truck works within its rating, XDP's Stock+ Series is the stock-style choice. If the truck tows heavy or you're installing a built transmission or converter, the XDP Billet Tow & Race Series or the BD billet flex plate is the step up.

Should I order bolts with the flex plate?

It saves a second trip. XDP's XD655 Flex Plate Bolt Kit is listed for 2003-2010 6.0L and 6.4L trucks, so you can have fresh hardware on hand when the new flex plate goes on. Check the listing for which fasteners are included.

Will these fit my manual-transmission truck?

No. A flex plate only applies to an automatic. Manual 6.0L Super Dutys use the ZF S6-650 six-speed, which is rated at 520 lb-ft and connects to the engine through a clutch rather than a torque converter.
