The 5R110W TorqShift behind the 6.0L Powerstroke runs Mercon SP fluid, and 2003-2007 units filter it twice: a main filter plus a 'toilet paper roll' style bypass filter. When you service the transmission, the standard parts list is the fluid, both filters and a pan gasket. Hot Shot's Secret lists approximately 7.5 quarts of fluid for the job, and the actual total capacity runs higher than that figure.

Choosing the right filter
Start with your pan. If the truck still has its factory pan, start with the BD 1064045 kit, and check the Mag-Hytec filter's listing for the pan it's built to work with. If you've installed PPE's heavy-duty aluminum deep pan, the PPE deep filter is the one made to match it. Read each listing to see which filters come in the box, so you don't finish the service without the bypass filter.
Fitment notes
2003 is a split year. Early 2003 Super Dutys were still 7.3L trucks with the 4R100, and the BD 1064044 kit, listed for 1994-2003, is for those trucks. A 6.0L with the TorqShift takes the 2003-and-later parts. Filters listed through 2010 also cover the 6.4L, but 2008-and-later units have their own service parts, so stick to the year range named on each listing. Manual trucks with the ZF S6-650 don't use these filters at all.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the 6.0L's transmission have two filters?
The 2003-2007 5R110W uses a 'toilet paper roll' style bypass filter in addition to the main filter. Both should be replaced at a fluid service. Check that the kit you choose includes what you need, or order the pieces separately.
Can I use the PPE deep filter with my stock pan?
The PPE 328051050 is listed for trucks with PPE's deep pan, so pair it with that pan. If you're keeping the factory pan, choose a filter or kit listed for your truck, such as the BD 1064045 kit for 2003-2010 Power Stroke trucks, and confirm it on the product page.
Which BD kit fits my 2003?
It depends on the engine. A 2003 with the 6.0L Powerstroke and TorqShift takes the 1064045 kit, listed for 2003-2010. An early 2003 that still has the 7.3L takes the 1064044 kit, listed for 1994-2003. Your VIN tells you which engine you have.
