Call or Text (352) 722-5295Digital monitors on the 2014-2017 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel
Ram didn't leave the EcoDiesel driver blind. The driver information display on the diesel trucks has gauge pages for coolant temperature, fuel filter life, battery voltage and turbo boost, and the cluster posts DPF messages such as “Regeneration Required Now,” “Regeneration in Process,” “Exhaust Service Required” and “Exhaust Filter Full - Power Reduced.” What the factory screen doesn't give you is exhaust gas temperature and transmission temperature on one always-on page, data logging, or alerts you set yourself. That's the gap an aftermarket monitor fills. It reads the truck's OBD-II port, so nothing on the engine gets changed.
Why EcoDiesel owners watch the numbers
A monitor isn't a part that wears out. It's how you see the parts that do. On this engine, towing heat is the trigger for the two biggest problems owners deal with. Oil-cooler cross-contamination is worst under towing and hauling loads, and owners report that the 8HP70 transmission's thermal bypass valve can let fluid temperature climb until the truck drops into limp mode. Both start the same way: oil, coolant or transmission temperature rising under load. With an alert set on trans temp in your line of sight, you get the chance to ease off or pull over before a long grade on a hot day turns into a tow bill. The same screen shows regen status, so a DPF message doesn't catch you off guard.
Factory display vs. an aftermarket monitor
For a truck that never tows, the factory pages may be enough. Once a trailer goes on the ball, you'll want more. The Edge Products Insight CTS3 (84130-3) is a 5-inch touchscreen that plugs into the OBD-II port. It reads and clears trouble codes, logs data, sets alerts, and reads boost, EGT, transmission temperature and regen status. On 2015-2022 3.0L Ram diesels it can also command a mobile DPF regeneration. Edge marks it “CARB EO not required” because it does not affect emissions. It watches; it doesn't retune. If you want a true pyrometer reading instead of only what the computer reports, Edge's EAS accessories add sensors the factory never installed.
What we carry
Everything in this collection comes from Edge Products:
- Edge Insight CTS3 84130-3: the universal OBD-II monitor itself, with a windshield mount in the box.
- Edge 98620 EAS EGT Kit (Daily Driver/Tow Kit): an exhaust gas temperature probe kit that feeds a true pyrometer reading into the CTS3's accessory input.
- Edge 98607 EAS Pressure Sensor (0-100 PSI): an EAS sensor that adds a pressure channel to the monitor.
The CTS3 works on its own. The EAS pieces are add-ons built to report through it.
Fitment notes
These listings are for the Ram 1500 with the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6. Edge's mobile regen support starts at the 2015 model year, so a 2014 truck gets full monitoring but may not get the regen command. Edge sells dash and pillar mounts separately if the windshield mount doesn't suit your cab. If you're not sure which engine or model year you have, verify by VIN before you order.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Edge Insight CTS3 change how my EcoDiesel runs?
No. It reads data, logs it and shows alerts through the OBD-II port. Edge lists it as not needing a CARB EO because it does not affect emissions. It is a monitor, not a tuner.
Can the CTS3 run a DPF regeneration on a 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel?
Maybe not. Edge lists mobile regen for 2015-2022 3.0L Ram diesels, so 2014 trucks get the monitoring, logging and code functions but may not get the regen command. Call us with your VIN and we'll check before you buy.
Which readings matter most when I tow?
Transmission temperature, coolant temperature and EGT. Towing heat is what drives the oil-cooler cross-contamination this engine is known for, and owners report the 8HP70's thermal bypass valve letting trans temperature climb into limp mode. Set alerts on those channels so the screen warns you early.
Do I need the EGT kit if the CTS3 already shows EGT?
Not to get started. The CTS3 shows the values the truck reports over OBD-II. The 98620 kit adds a true pyrometer probe through the monitor's accessory input. If you tow often and want a measured reading rather than a reported one, add the kit.
Where does the monitor mount?
The CTS3 ships with a windshield mount. Edge sells dash and pillar mounts separately. Pick a spot you can read at a glance without blocking your view of the road.
