Call or Text (352) 722-5295Transmission parts for the 2010-2018 RAM 6.7L Cummins
Sort this section by the job you are doing. Service work on the 68RFE behind a standard-output 6.7L Cummins means Mopar ATF+4, six to eight quarts, and a new filter, at 120,000 miles in normal use or 60,000 in severe service. Aisin trucks take Mopar ASRC every 30,000 miles or 24 months. Cooling work means coolers and thermal bypass valves. Driveline work means flex plates and transmission mounts. Internal work means the 68RFE valve body, clutches and shafts.
What wears out
The 68RFE wear list is well documented: separator plate, accumulators, solenoid pack, valve body, overdrive clutches and converter. Valve-bore wear causes hydraulic failures in gears 4-6, and the converter stalls higher than it should. Owner complaints on 2014-2016 trucks describe separator plate and accumulator defects and solenoid pack failures after the U29/U30 service campaigns. On G56 manual trucks, heat in the aluminum case degrades the fluid, and the case can flex and leak.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
For routine service, a pan gasket, a filter and the right fluid are all you need. If you want to replace the factory pan, cast aluminum and deep pans are listed here. When the 68RFE needs internal work, the aftermarket goes straight at its weak points with valve-body upgrades, billet converters and clutch packs. BD's Stage 2 and Stage 4 Build-It kits, billet input shaft, billet overdrive reaction plates and Big Stack overdrive parts fall into that group. On a G56, the known fixes are synthetic fluid plus a cooler or heat-sink cover for heat and a case brace for flex.
What we carry
BD Diesel covers 68RFE internals: valve bodies, Build-It kits, billet input shafts, overdrive parts and a billet flex plate, plus auxiliary coolers. ATS Diesel Performance adds a thermal bypass valve upgrade and more transmission parts. Mishimoto, PPE and Fleece Performance Engineering cover coolers and thermal bypass valves, with another bypass valve upgrade from XDP. Pans come from PPE, Mishimoto, XDP and Mag-Hytec, and pan gaskets from PPE and MAHLE. Filters come from PPE, BD and Mag-Hytec, with an XDP filter clamp. Hot Shot's Secret supplies the fluid. You will also find XDP flex plates, Anchor transmission mounts, an XDP line pressure sensor, and transmission parts from AFE.
Fitment notes
Aisin and 68RFE parts never cross over, and the dipstick tells you which you have: passenger side for the 68RFE, driver side for the Aisin. PPE lists separate AS69RC pans and gaskets for 2013-2024 trucks. Direct-fit coolers are listed by year range, with separate parts for 2010-2012 trucks and for 2013-and-later trucks, and some split again at 2015. Thermal bypass valve upgrades are listed for 2013-2018. The XDP line pressure sensor is listed for 2007.5-2017 trucks with the 68RFE, and the BD valve body for 2011-2018. Verify by VIN before you order.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I change 68RFE fluid and filter?
Ram lists 120,000 miles for normal service and 60,000 miles for severe service, with the filter changed at the same time. A service takes six to eight quarts of Mopar ATF+4. Aisin trucks are different: Mopar ASRC every 30,000 miles or 24 months.
Which 68RFE parts wear out first?
The usual suspects are the separator plate, accumulators, solenoid pack, valve body, overdrive clutches and converter. Valve-bore wear and the gear 4-6 hydraulic circuit sit behind many failures, which is why valve bodies and overdrive parts lead the upgrade list.
Do I need a 68RFE pan or an Aisin pan?
It depends on your transmission, and they do not interchange. Standard-output automatic trucks run the 68RFE, with the dipstick on the passenger side. A 2013-2018 3500 High Output with the HO badge and a driver-side dipstick runs the Aisin AS69RC and needs the AS69RC-specific pan and gasket.
