On the 2003-2004 Cummins, the Holset HE341CW (also listed as HY35W) sits on the exhaust manifold with an oil feed and an oil drain and no coolant lines; its journal-bearing center section relies on engine oil for both lubrication and cooling. That puts most of this collection into two jobs: keeping clean oil flowing in and out of the bearing housing, and managing heat and sealing around the housings.
What fails and why
Hot shutdowns are the main oil-side risk. With no water cooling, oil left sitting in a hot bearing housing cokes, and the result is shaft play, oil leaking into the intake or exhaust, and blue smoke. Diesel Hub recommends 30 seconds to a minute of idle after normal driving and 1 to 3 minutes after towing. Age is the other factor: after ten-plus years of heat cycles and moisture, the turbine and bearing housings can corrode and seize, and exhaust can leak at the flange. That is when fresh gaskets and clamps earn their keep.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
If you are refreshing the factory turbo, stick with parts made for the stock Holset: the Fleece FPE-CRTFL-OE replacement oil feed line, the Fleece factory oil feed fitting, the Fleece CW installation kit and the MAHLE GS33584 mounting gasket set for 2003-2007 Cummins. If you are installing an S300 or S400 charger, the G&R Diesel S300-S400 oil supply, drain and line kits and the Fleece FPE-TURBO-INST-KIT-CUMM59 install kit are made for those chargers. Turbo blankets come in T4 and T6 sizes, so match the blanket to the turbine flange on your charger.

Fitment notes
Several items here span more than one generation: the Fleece oil feed line is listed for 1991-2018 5.9/6.7L Cummins with Holset chargers, and the BD flexible drains for 2003-2024 Cummins. Others are 2003-2007 only, like the MAHLE GS33584 gasket set and the Fleece CW drain-tube kit. Oil-line and install kits are specific to either the stock-style CW charger or an S300/S400 swap, so buy for the turbo you are running. The clamps, blankets and flange gaskets are sized by part, not by truck; match them to your hardware. Verify by VIN when in doubt.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a new oil feed line when I replace the turbo?
Fleece makes the FPE-CRTFL-OE as a replacement feed line for Holset chargers, and a turbo swap is the easiest time to change it, since the line is already off. If you are moving to an S300 or S400, use a line kit made for that charger, such as the G&R Diesel S300-S400 kit.
What does a boost tester do?
A boost tester pressurizes the intake tract with regulated air so you can hunt down leaks at boots, clamps and the intercooler with the engine off. The Calibrated Power Stealth Boost Tester pairs an HD regulator with an inlet adapter for your compressor; this collection has adapters for Holset and S300/S400/S500 chargers.
Is a cool-down timer worth it?
If you tow and tend to shut down right away, it can help. Diesel Hub recommends 1 to 3 minutes of idle after towing so oil can carry heat out of the turbo, and hot shutdowns are what coke oil in this bearing housing, which has no water cooling. The BD Cool Down Timer 2 is built for that job.
Can I rebuild my stock turbo while it is off?
Yes. Holset service kit 4031484 covers the journal bearings, seals and thrust washers, and an undamaged compressor wheel can go back in. Torque the compressor-wheel nut to 133 inch-pounds with a 6-point nut or 124 inch-pounds with a 12-point, and pre-lube the bearings before first start. Expect a fight separating the housings on an older unit, since they can corrode together.
