Call or Text (352) 722-5295Engine components on the 2017-2019 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
The 6.7L in your F-250 or F-350 is a pushrod V8 with four valves per cylinder, self-adjusting hydraulic lifters that need no lash service, and a gear-driven camshaft. The heads are aluminum reverse-flow castings bolted down with six bolts per cylinder on a compacted graphite iron block. Pistons are oil-cooled aluminum through 2019. Each cylinder gets one ceramic glow plug. The 2015 update carried into these years added IROX-coated lower main bearings, strengthened heads and a heavier crank damper. What fails and why
The hard parts on this page are not common failures at stock power. Head-gasket failure is not a known pattern, and rod trouble only shows up on heavily tuned trucks: DrivingLine puts the stock rods at about 650 rwhp reliably and on borrowed time past 700. The component that needs regular attention is the CCV separator on the driver-side valve cover. As it loads up with oil mist, crankcase pressure rises, oil gets pushed into the turbo inlet and intercooler, and external oil seeps show up at the seals. If a seal is weeping, check the CCV before you replace the seal.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
For repair work, stay OE-grade. Mahle gaskets and seals and Alliant Power sensors match the factory parts. The upgrades here are for builds. DrivingLine says the stock heads are adequate below roughly 700 rwhp and recommends stiffer valve springs and chromoly pushrods above that. SPE's Stage-2 valve springs, chromoly pushrods, titanium retainers, S Port heads and prepped crank are made for that kind of truck. If your truck is at stock power, you do not need them.
What we carry
Mahle covers the gasket side: the HS54886A head set, CS54886A lower engine gasket set, HS54887A head gasket set, left and right head gaskets, valve cover gasket sets, the JV1733 rear main seal set, JV5191 timing cover gasket set, 67965 timing cover seal, TW-711S thrust washers, a vacuum pump gasket and the GS33697 injection pump mounting gasket kit. Alliant Power supplies crank and cam position sensors and a glow plug control unit. SPE Motorsport brings valve springs, pushrods, titanium retainers, a billet oil pump gear, billet oil caps, S Port heads, a prepped crank and CCV parts including an internal catch can. You will also find XDP street performance pushrods, Mishimoto replacement and performance oil coolers, a PPE billet oil fill cap, a Dorman clutch fan blade and a Fleece cooling fan adapter harness.
Fitment notes
Most parts here are catalogued for 2011-2019 or 2015-2019. A few run shorter: the Alliant Power AP63525 glow plug control unit is listed for 2011-2017 and the Fleece fan harness for 2011-2018, so 2018 and 2019 owners should confirm those by VIN. Ford changed the pistons, rods and crank for 2020, so do not assume later internals carry back to your engine. Chassis cabs run a 330 hp calibration and a different turbo than the pickups, so tell us which you have when you call.
Frequently asked questions
Should I check anything before replacing a leaking seal?
Yes, the CCV separator. A restricted CCV raises crankcase pressure, and that shows up as external oil seeps at seals and oil in the intake tract. Replace a seal without fixing the pressure and you may end up doing the job twice.
When do I need upgraded valve springs and pushrods?
When the truck is built past roughly 700 rwhp. Below that, DrivingLine says the stock heads and injectors are adequate. Springs and pushrods are build parts, not maintenance parts.
Does the 6.7L Powerstroke need a valve lash adjustment?
No. It uses self-adjusting hydraulic lifters with a gear-driven cam, so there is no lash service. If the covers are off for other work, there is nothing to adjust.
Will 2020 pistons or rods fit my 2018?
No. Ford moved to short-skirt forged steel pistons, 15.8:1 compression and longer rods for 2020, so 2017-2019 pistons and rods are a different part set. Stick with parts listed for your years.
