The factory exhaust on the 6.7L Powerstroke runs from the valley-mounted turbo through a downpipe to the diesel oxidation catalyst, the DPF and the DEF-dosed SCR catalyst, then out a single tailpipe. Ford built the major components in stainless steel. The DOC, DPF and SCR do the cleaning, and they stay put. Everything you can change for sound lives behind the SCR, and that is where these MBRP mufflers and resonators go. They are universal parts sized by inlet diameter, so they work in a filter-back system or a custom tailpipe build that starts after the factory aftertreatment.
Where a muffler fits on this truck
The compliant way to change the sound of a 2015-2016 F-250 or F-350 is a DPF-back, or filter-back, system that leaves the aftertreatment intact, and a muffler or resonator is one piece of that system. Placement depends on your truck. Exhaust routing and tailpipe length change with cab, bed and wheelbase, and DRW and F-450 trucks differ from SRW trucks. Measure the space you have behind the SCR before you pick a muffler body, and match the inlet to your pipe diameter.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
These are universal upgrade and tuning parts rather than model-specific factory replacements, so the choice comes down to sound, size and material. MBRP's Quiet Tone mufflers come in 4-in and 5-in, and the name tells you their goal. The Armor Plus GP290022 is a 5-in high-flow muffler. The plain universal mufflers come in 4-in and 5-in 409 stainless steel. For resonators, MBRP offers its diesel resonators in aluminized or stainless steel, plus the Armor Lite M20681 resonator muffler. If you want the add-on to match the stainless factory system, choose a stainless part.

Fitment notes
Because these are universal parts, the product titles do not list a year range. Fit comes from inlet diameter and the room you have under the truck. Match a 4-in muffler to 4-in pipe and a 5-in muffler to 5-in pipe; if you are building around an MBRP filter-back system, use its diameter. Keep every muffler or resonator behind the SCR. The 2011-2016 chassis cabs run a different turbo and do not share pickup exhaust parts, so confirm your setup first. Verify by VIN or call the shop if you are unsure.
Frequently asked questions
Where does a muffler go on a 2015-2016 6.7L?
Behind the SCR catalyst. The DOC, DPF and SCR stay in place ahead of it, and the muffler or resonator becomes part of the filter-back section. Exact position depends on cab, bed and wheelbase, so measure before you order.
Should I pick a muffler or a resonator?
It comes down to the sound you want. The Quiet Tone name tells you that muffler's goal, the Armor Plus GP290022 is the high-flow 5-in option, and the resonators come in aluminized or stainless steel. The M20681 is sold as a resonator muffler. Whichever you pick, match the inlet to your pipe.
Aluminized or stainless?
MBRP offers the diesel resonators in both, and its plain universal mufflers here are 409 stainless steel. Ford built the major factory exhaust components in stainless, so a stainless muffler or resonator keeps the same material from front to back.
