From the factory, exhaust on the 6.7L Powerstroke leaves the valley-mounted turbo through a downpipe, passes through the diesel oxidation catalyst, the silicon-carbide DPF and the SCR catalyst where DEF is dosed, then exits through a single tailpipe. Ford built the major components in stainless steel. The DOC, DPF and SCR stay. A DPF-back system, which MBRP calls filter-back, replaces only the piping after the SCR. That is the section you can change on a 2015-2016 F-250 or F-350 while keeping the aftertreatment intact.
Before you swap the tailpipe
New pipe behind the SCR will not fix problems ahead of it. If the truck shows frequent regen messages, reduced power or a rising oil level, look at how it is driven: an active regen generally needs 10 to 20 miles above 35 mph to finish, and stop-and-go trucks that never complete one load the DPF and dilute the oil. If the trouble started after a boost leak, remember that a failed boost tube can plug the DPF with soot in 5 to 10 miles. Sort those out first, then build the exhaust you want.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
If you only need to reseal the factory tailpipe joint, the MAHLE F32820 intermediate pipe to tailpipe gasket is the OEM-style part. For an upgrade, MBRP offers filter-back systems in two lines, Armor Lite and Armor Plus, in 4-in and 5-in diameters, with single-outlet layouts and a 4-in dual-outlet layout. Choose the diameter for the look and tip you want, and pick the line by the material and finish listed on each product page. A filter-back system is also the place to add a muffler or resonator if you want to tune the sound.

Fitment notes
Every MBRP filter-back system here is listed for 2011-2016 6.7L trucks, so unlike the downpipes, these systems do not split at 2015. Cab and bed still matter: exhaust routing and tailpipe length depend on cab, bed and wheelbase, and DRW and F-450 trucks differ from SRW. The S6288409 dual-outlet system is listed for Crew Cab and extended-cab (SuperCab) trucks only, so a Regular Cab takes a single-outlet system. The 2011-2016 chassis cabs run a different turbo, and pickup exhaust parts do not carry over to them. Check the cab, bed and wheel configuration on the product page and verify by VIN.
Frequently asked questions
Is filter-back the same as DPF-back?
Yes. Both describe a system that starts after the SCR catalyst at the end of the factory aftertreatment. On a 2015-2016 6.7L that means the DOC, DPF and SCR stay in place and only the tailpipe section changes, which is the compliant way to upgrade this truck's exhaust.
Should I go 4-in or 5-in?
MBRP lists both diameters, in both Armor Lite and Armor Plus, for 2011-2016 6.7L trucks, so either one fits. It comes down to the tip and look you want and whether you plan to add a muffler or resonator, which you will need in the matching inlet size.
Will the dual-outlet system fit a Regular Cab?
MBRP lists the S6288409 dual-outlet filter-back system for Crew Cab and extended-cab trucks only. Regular Cab owners should choose one of the single-outlet 4-in or 5-in systems. If you are not sure which cab and bed combination you have, call the shop with the VIN.
