Call or Text (352) 722-5295Transmission pans on the 2007.5-2010 Chevrolet LMM
Every LMM Silverado pickup came with the Allison 1000 six-speed automatic, the only transmission GM paired with this engine in pickups. The pan closes off the bottom of the transmission, holds the Dexron-VI fluid and covers the internal sump filter. The service spec lists the TF920 sump filter for 2006-2010 units plus a TF950 / Allison 29539579 spin-on filter, with fluid and filters every 50,000 miles in normal use or 25,000 severe. Some heavy towers report changing fluid far more often, as often as every 2,500 miles.
What the pan tells you
Dropping the pan is your best look inside the transmission. Metal in the fluid is one of the signs of a failing stock torque converter, which is the first casualty on an Allison behind a tuned or hard-towing LMM, and converter debris can take out the rest of the transmission if it's ignored. The Allison's adaptive shift logic can hide wear until something fails, so a careful look at the pan and filter at every service is worth the time.
Stock vs. deep pan
If your pan is only leaking at the seal, a new gasket from PPE or Allison may be all you need. If you're replacing the pan, you can stay with a standard pan or step up to a deep pan, which adds sump depth. Pair a deep pan with the filter made for that depth, since a deep sump and a standard sump take different internal filter depths. Merchant Automotive sells its deep pan with a filter lock kit (10710) or with a filter lock kit and fluid (10711).
What we carry
Deep pans come from Allison (29536522), PPE, BD Diesel (1061650 deep sump), ATS Diesel Performance (301-900-4248) and Merchant Automotive. You'll also find the Mishimoto MMTP-DMAX-01, the Mag-Hytec A1000 pan, the aFe 46-70070 in a raw finish and the Banks Power Ram-Air pan. Pan gaskets come from PPE (128044000) and Allison (29549684), and ATS sells a 402-009-1000 drain plug that fits ATS pans.
Fitment notes
These pans are listed for 2001-2019 6.6L Duramax trucks with the Allison (the ATS pan through 2018), so they cover your 2007.5-2010 LMM Silverado 2500HD or 3500HD. A gas 6.0L Silverado HD uses the Hydra-Matic 6L90, a different transmission, and these won't fit it. If you go deep, confirm the internal filter matches the pan. Verify by VIN or with the fitment checker.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a different filter with a deep transmission pan?
Plan on it. Internal filter depth differs between deep and standard sumps, so match the filter to the pan you install. Merchant Automotive's 10710 pan comes with a filter lock kit, and the 10711 adds fluid as well.
What fluid goes back in after I drop the pan?
Dexron-VI only. That is the specified fluid for the Allison 1000 behind the LMM, and the service interval is every 50,000 miles in normal use or 25,000 severe, with the TF920 sump filter and TF950 spin-on filter.
Does the ATS drain plug fit other pans?
The ATS 402-009-1000 is listed to fit ATS pans and ATS differential covers. If you run another brand's pan, check that pan's own listing for its drain plug.
