2007.5-2010 GMC Duramax LMM Turbo Accessories

Turbo hardware for the 2007.5-2010 GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD with the LMM Duramax. The useful thing about the factory Garrett is that it breaks down into serviceable pieces: the vane actuator and the vane position sensor are sold on their own, so a boost code is not automatically a new turbocharger. Whatever you buy, buy gaskets with it.

Pieces of the turbo you can buy by themselves

The LMM's turbo is a water-cooled variable-vane Garrett. Its vanes are swung by an oil-fed solenoid actuator and watched by a vane position sensor, part 763527-0712, which Garrett carried from 2004.5 through 2016. Both of those fail on their own, and a dead actuator leaves the vanes parked in one spot, which looks exactly like a turbine housing packed with carbon. So they get tested before anything comes off the truck, and the Alliant Power AP91000 vane actuator is here for when the test points at it.

Sealing a turbo R&R

The mouthpiece and inlet gaskets are one kit; the oil feed and drain gaskets are another. Order both, because both get disturbed. MAHLE covers mounting gasket sets GS33954 and GS33678, T4 and T6 flange gaskets, and the F32918 up-pipe-to-turbo gasket that is worth replacing any time that joint comes loose. Merchant Automotive 10124 is cut specifically for 2007.5-2010 trucks. The WCFab Stealth turbo gasket kit and the Alliant Power AP0162 installation kit cover the rest, and PPE sells the round upper and oval lower drain-line gaskets separately for when that is all you tore.

Oil lines: factory turbo versus frame turbo

A factory Garrett feeds and drains through the OE lines, so the drain-line gaskets and the PPE oil galley feed fitting are usually all it asks for. The S300 and S400 kits in here are a different animal, plumbing for an aftermarket frame-mounted turbo: Merchant Automotive 10228 and 10348, G&R Diesel drain, supply and combined kits, the WCFab S400 single turbo oil line kit, PPE T4 drain fittings and the PPE 304 stainless oil return pipe. Merchant's 10088 billet lower oil drain fitting lands at that same drain joint and is listed for 2001-2016 trucks.

Heat, clamps and couplers

Blankets go on the hot side: titanium and woven options from PPE and Mishimoto, plus T4, T6 and VGT-specific versions from WCFab. Pick by what is actually bolted to your Sierra. The WCFab VGT blanket and the Mishimoto MMTB-DMAX-05 are listed for 2004.5-2016 6.6L Duramax trucks, while a T4 or T6 blanket is shaped for a housing of that size. For holding things together there are BD Diesel exhaust V-band and full Marmon V-band clamps and high-torque hose clamps, with a PPE silicone hose coupling for charge-air plumbing. Billet resonator plugs come from Fleece Performance Engineering, Merchant Automotive and XDP, and you will see ATS Diesel Performance in the mix here as well.

Testing the charge side

Pressure-test before you buy. The Calibrated Power Solutions Stealth Boost Tester HD regulator, its faceplate adapter listed for 2004.5-2016 Duramax trucks and its inlet adapter for S300, S400, S400R and S500 turbos let you find the boot and clamp leaks that otherwise get blamed on the turbocharger. Looking for the turbo itself? Browse turbos or back up to the Duramax hub.

Fitment notes

Expect listing ranges wider than your truck's years. 2001-2010, 2001-2016 and 2004.5-2016 all take in a 2007.5-2010 LMM, because GM reused this turbo architecture across Duramax generations. Make sure your Sierra is the GMT900 HD body and not a 2007 Sierra HD Classic, which is the GMT800 truck with the LBZ, and remember that 2011 and newer Sierras are LML. Have the VIN handy and we will check it against the listing before you order.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace just the vane position sensor?

Yes. It is a separate part, 763527-0712, used from 2004.5 through 2016. Confirm it is the fault first, because wiring problems and a failed actuator throw the same position and communication codes. A sensor reading wrong and vanes that will not move need different parts.

Which gaskets actually come out during a turbo job?

Both kits. The mouthpiece and inlet gaskets are sold apart from the oil feed and drain gaskets, so get them together. MAHLE mounting sets, the Merchant Automotive 10124 kit for 2007.5-2010, the WCFab Stealth kit and the Alliant Power AP0162 installation kit are the usual starting points on a Sierra.

Do I need an S400 oil line kit for a stock turbo?

No. Those kits exist to feed and drain an aftermarket frame-mounted turbo. A factory Garrett uses the OE lines, and what it wants out of this collection is the upper and lower drain-line gaskets, the oil galley feed fitting and the mounting gaskets.

What does the Cool Down Timer do?

The BD Diesel Cool Down Timer 2 keeps the engine running for a set time after you take the key out, so the turbo comes down off temperature before the oil stops moving. On a filter-equipped LMM that runs hot exhaust through the turbine, that is cheap insurance on a turbo you just paid for.
