Every drop of fuel headed for the injectors on the 6.7L Powerstroke first passes through the CP4.2 high-pressure pump, and that pump is lubricated by the diesel it moves, not by engine oil. Ford runs these trucks on ultra-low-sulfur diesel and allows biodiesel blends up to B20. Lubricity additives are used to put lubricity back into ULSD for a fuel-lubricated pump, and Hot Shot's Secret Everyday Diesel Treatment is a commonly named example. What fails and why
The 2020-2022 trucks are under Ford recall 24S78 (NHTSA 24V957000) because biodiesel deposits can form on the pump's roller components and lead to high-pressure pump failure. Ford ties those deposits to aged biodiesel, including fuel left in the tank while a truck sits parked for long periods. The recall fix is PCM and TCM software, not anything you pour in the tank, so get the recall done first. Water and debris are the CP4's other enemies. When a pump does fail, it can contaminate the entire fuel system, from the injectors and rails back to the tank.
Additives vs. hardware
An additive is one layer of protection, not the whole plan. It is not a substitute for clean filters and a drained water separator, and it does not take the place of the recall software. Fresh fuel and short storage matter just as much on this engine. Owners who want more than a bottle add filtration and water separation ahead of the pump with a FASS or AirDog system, or a disaster prevention kit that protects the rest of the system if the CP4 fails. Will a fuel additive prevent CP4 failure on my 2020-2022 6.7L?
Nothing in a bottle guarantees that. Lubricity additives are the common preventive step for a fuel-lubricated pump, but clean, dry, fresh fuel and good filtration matter just as much, and the Ford recall software should be done first. Treat the additive as one layer among several.
Which additive should I use when it gets cold?

Ford allows blends up to B20. The 24S78 recall ties pump roller deposits to aged biodiesel, so the risk is old fuel, especially in a truck that sits. Buy fresh fuel, keep storage short, and do not park the truck for long stretches on a tank of biodiesel blend.
