2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Mufflers

Mufflers and resonators for 2011-2014 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty pickups with the 6.7L Powerstroke. Everything on this page is from MBRP and goes in the tailpipe section behind the aftertreatment, so it shapes the sound without touching the DOC, DPF or SCR. Settle pipe size first: most of these come in 4 in and 5 in versions.

Mufflers and resonators on the 2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

On the 6.7L Powerstroke, exhaust leaves the valley-mounted turbo through a two-piece 4 in downpipe and then runs through the aftertreatment: a diesel oxidation catalyst, a diesel particulate filter and SCR with DEF injection. Everything behind the aftertreatment is the tailpipe section. That is the only place a muffler or resonator from this page goes, and it is the same section a filter-back (DPF-back) system replaces. Because the aftertreatment stays in place, a muffler or resonator change is a sound and comfort choice, not an emissions change.

What to sort out before you buy

A muffler will not fix a drivability problem, so rule those out first. Frequent regen messages, lower fuel economy and a hot smell when parked trace back to short trips, extended idling, boost or exhaust leaks and sensor faults. A higher idle and heat smell during a regen are normal. Active regen needs driving above 35 mph and does not care what muffler you run. Leaks ahead of the turbo show up as poor spool, high EGT and what feels like transmission hunting, and that repair is at the manifolds. Once the truck runs right, pick the sound you want and match the muffler to your pipe diameter.

Muffler vs. resonator

A muffler sets the overall volume and tone. MBRP's Quiet Tone mufflers, as the name says, are aimed at a quieter result. The 409 stainless universal mufflers come in 4 in and 5 in, the Armor Plus 5 in High Flow muffler suits a 5 in system, and the Diesel Resonators come in aluminized and stainless steel. If you run one of MBRP's Armor Lite or Armor Plus filter-back systems, buy a muffler or resonator in the same diameter.

What we carry

This page is all MBRP: the universal 4 in and 5 in 409SS mufflers, the Universal 4 in Quiet Tone muffler and the Armor Lite 5 in Quiet Tone muffler, the GP290022 Armor Plus 5 in High Flow muffler, the M20681 Armor Lite resonator muffler, and MBRP Diesel Resonators in aluminized and stainless steel. Fitment notes

Most of these are universal parts, not built for one truck, so they are fitted to your pipe rather than bolted on. Match the inlet and outlet size to your tailpipe or filter-back system. The tailpipe on these trucks varies with cab, bed length and SRW or DRW, which is why complete filter-back kits are listed by configuration. If you would rather have it fitted in our Wildwood, FL bays, call the shop. Verify your truck by VIN before ordering a complete system.

Frequently asked questions

Will a new muffler affect my DPF or regen cycle?

No. The muffler goes in the tailpipe section behind the aftertreatment, so the DOC, DPF and SCR stay in place. Active regen depends on driving above 35 mph, ideally at highway speed, not on what muffler you run.

Should I buy a 4 in or 5 in muffler?

Match it to the pipe. MBRP's filter-back systems for these trucks come in 4 in and 5 in, and the mufflers here come in both sizes. Buy the size that matches the pipe it is going into.

Are these mufflers made for the 6.7L specifically?

Most are universal, which means they are fitted to your existing pipe rather than built for one truck. That gives you more choice in sound. We install everything we sell, so the shop can handle the fitting if you would rather not.
