2008-2010 Ford 6.4L Powerstroke Gauges & Monitors

Monitor sensors and mounts for the 2008-2010 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty with the 6.4L Powerstroke. The one thing to know: the stock cluster does not show regen status, and short trips that interrupt regens are a documented cause of DPF loading and oil dilution on this engine. A monitor that shows regen, EGT, boost and trans temp lets you see when a regen is running.

Digital monitors on the 2008-2010 Ford 6.4L Powerstroke

The 6.4L Powerstroke was the first Powerstroke with a diesel particulate filter. The DPF traps soot, and the engine cleans it with active regeneration: the ECM injects fuel late in the stroke so it burns in the oxidation catalyst and DPF, burning off soot at roughly 1,100-1,400 F. On this engine some of that late fuel washes past the rings and into the oil. The factory cluster never tells you a regen is running, and that is the gap an aftermarket monitor fills. An OBD-II monitor can show EGT, boost, transmission temperature and regen status, and add-on sensors and probes extend what it reads.

What goes wrong without one

Interrupted regens from short trips are a documented cause of DPF loading and oil dilution on the 6.4L. The signs are frequent regens and an oil level that keeps rising, and it is an ongoing pattern rather than a mileage milestone. Because the stock cluster does not show regen status, you can shut the truck off mid-cycle and never know it. A monitor that shows regen activity tells you when to keep driving so the cycle can finish.

Stock cluster vs. upgrade

The stock cluster is the baseline. The upgrade is a monitor that reads the 6.4L parameters that matter, plus add-on sensors for readings it cannot pull from the computer. An EGT gauge or monitor is monitoring only: it reads data and does not change how the engine runs, so it is a compliant upgrade. The hardware itself is not platform-specific. What makes it worth having on a 6.4L is the parameter set it shows: regen status, EGT and transmission temperature. The other half of the job is mounting the screen where you will actually see it.

What we carry

This collection covers the add-ons and mounts that go with a monitor. From Edge Products there is the 98620 EAS EGT kit, sold as the Daily Driver/Tow kit, the 98607 EAS pressure sensor with a 0-100 psi range, comfortably above the roughly 40-42 psi of boost the stock compound turbos make, and the 18605 A-pillar display mount listed for 2008-2010 6.4L trucks. SPE Motorsport offers the S200107 vent mount for a Mini Maxx and the S200121 52 mm vent gauge mount, each listed for 2008-2016 6.4L and 6.7L trucks.

Fitment notes

The interior was fully redesigned for 2008, so dash and pillar pods made for 2005-2007 Super Duty trucks differ from those for a 2008-2010 truck. Within 2008-2010, the pods are generic to the Super Duty interior. The SPE vent mounts are also listed for 2011-2016 6.7L trucks, while the Edge A-pillar mount is listed for 2008-2010 only. Before ordering EAS sensors, confirm on the product page that your Edge monitor supports them.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a 6.4L owner need a monitor?

Because the stock cluster does not show regen status. Interrupted regens from short trips are a documented cause of DPF loading and oil dilution on this engine. A monitor that shows regen activity lets you keep driving until the cycle finishes. Frequent regens and a rising oil level are the warning signs.

Is a gauge or monitor a compliant upgrade on a 6.4L?

Yes, when it is monitoring only. An EGT gauge or a monitor that just reads data is a compliant upgrade because it does not change how the engine runs. Everything in this collection is a sensor or a mount for monitoring.

What do I need besides what is on this page?

A monitor. This page carries the add-ons and mounts: the Edge EAS EGT kit and pressure sensor, the Edge A-pillar mount and the SPE vent mounts. Monitor hardware is not platform-specific; what matters on a 6.4L is that it reads regen status, EGT and transmission temperature. Call the shop if you want help matching sensors and mounts to the monitor you run.

What does the Edge EAS EGT kit add?

It adds an exhaust gas temperature reading to a compatible Edge monitor through Edge's EAS accessory line. EGT probes are one of the usual monitor add-ons, and EGT is part of the parameter set that makes a monitor worth having on a 6.4L. Check the product page to confirm your monitor supports EAS before you order.
