2007.5-2010 Chevy Duramax LMM Shocks

Replacement and upgrade shock absorbers for the 2007.5-2010 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD with the 6.6L LMM Duramax. These trucks did not all get the same damper from the factory - twin-tube on the 2500HD, monotube on the 3500HD - so the right shock depends on which truck you have, which corner you are doing, and where the front end sits today.

Shocks on the 2007.5-2010 Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD

The front of these trucks is independent, sprung by torsion bars through upper and lower control arms, so the front shock controls a corner held up by a bar you can adjust. The rear is a semi-elliptical multileaf pack, two-stage on the 2500HD and three-stage on the 3500HD. Factory damper content follows the model: 35 mm twin-tube shocks with a 36 mm front stabilizer bar on the 2500HD, and 46 mm monotube shocks with a 34 mm bar on the 3500HD. Single-rear-wheel trucks with the Z71 Off-Road package came with 36 mm twin-tube gas shocks, a 36 mm bar, jounce bumpers and skid plates, which is why two Silverado HDs of the same year can want different parts.

What these trucks ask of a damper

Load is the short answer. Rear axle capacity runs 6,900 lb on the 2500HD, 6,500 lb on the 3500HD single-rear-wheel and 9,200 lb on the dually, with 4,800 lb up front. Owners who hang a fifth wheel or a camper on the 2500HD two-stage leaf pack report rear squat, headlights aimed high and sway, which is a spring and load issue rather than a damper issue - worth separating before you spend money. Ride height is the other thing to account for: if the truck has been leveled by cranking the torsion keys, the front-end angles are raised, and that accelerates ball joint, tie rod and idler and pitman arm wear, showing up as clunks and uneven tire wear.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

Bilstein splits this catalog by series, and the listings tell you what each one is for. The B6 4600 series part numbers are the most model-specific: a rear shock called out for 2001-2010 2500 trucks, a different rear shock for 3500 trucks, a front shock called out for 4WD. The B8 5100 series covers front and rear, and several of those numbers are shared with 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins trucks, so read the application line rather than the series name. The B8 5160 series includes a stock-mount remote reservoir rear shock. Pick by position, drivetrain and 2500 versus 3500 first, and tell us your ride height if the truck is leveled or lifted so the shock matches the travel you actually have.

What we carry

Every shock on this page is Bilstein: B6 4600 series front and rear, B8 5100 series front and rear, and B8 5160 series including a stock-mount remote reservoir rear unit, with separate part numbers for 2WD and 4WD and for 2500 versus 3500 applications on the 2001-2010 Duramax chassis.

Fitment notes

Shocks here are listed by corner and by part number, so order front and rear separately instead of assuming one listing covers the truck. Check the 2007 split: the 2007 Classic Silverado HD is the previous body with the LBZ, and the LMM came only in the new body. Check the 2010/2011 split too, because the 2011 refresh brought a new frame, control arms, torsion bars and leaf springs, so these parts are a 2001-2010 group that does not carry forward. Then verify 2WD or 4WD, 2500HD or 3500HD, single-rear-wheel or dually by VIN, and use the fitment checker if an application line lists more than one truck.

Frequently asked questions

Which Bilstein series should I order?

Start with the application rather than the series. Find the listing that names your position, front or rear, along with your drivetrain and your model, 2500 or 3500. From there, the B6 4600 listings are the tightest fit by model, the B8 5100 numbers are shared across Duramax and Cummins trucks, and the B8 5160 line includes a remote reservoir rear shock. If the truck is leveled or lifted, say so when you call so we can match the shock to the ride height.

Does a 3500 take the same rear shock as a 2500?

Not in the B6 4600 line. There is one rear part number called out for 2001-2010 2500 trucks and a different one for 3500 trucks. That tracks with the rear suspension itself: the 2500HD runs a two-stage leaf pack and 6,900 lb of rear axle capacity, while the 3500HD is three-stage at 6,500 lb single-rear-wheel or 9,200 lb as a dually. Order by model.

Will shocks off a 2011 Silverado HD fit my 2010?

No. GM replaced the frame, control arms, torsion bars and rear leaf springs for 2011, so suspension parts are cataloged 2001-2010 and 2011-up as separate groups. Everything on this page is for the 2007.5-2010 truck.
