2019-2024 Ram 6.7L Cummins Engine Parts

This is the engine page for the 2019-2024 Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 6.7L Cummins: head studs and gaskets, valve train, oil system parts, belts and pulleys, and the oil itself. If you own one of these trucks, know this first: the hydraulic roller lifters are the weak spot, and the oil spec changed to 10W-30 or 5W-40 CK-4, never 15W-40.

The engine in the 2019-2024 RAM 6.7L Cummins

Ram kept the 6.7L displacement for 2019, but nearly everything inside the Cummins was new. The block is compacted graphite iron cast by Tupy, with a deep skirt and four-bolt mains. The crank is stronger, with a 10-bolt flange. Forged-steel rods replace the old powdered-metal rods, and the pistons get larger wrist pins and low-friction rings. The cast-iron head is held down by larger-diameter bolts than 2013-2018, and it carries new exhaust valves, stiffer springs and non-adjustable rockers. This is the first Cummins with hydraulic roller lifters, so the old valve-lash check is gone from the maintenance schedule. The oil and water pumps moved into aluminum housings. The whole engine weighs about 1,060 lb dry, roughly 60 lb less than the 2007-2018 version.

There are two ratings. Standard output (370 hp and 850 lb-ft, 19.0:1 compression) was offered in both the 2500 and 3500 and is backed by the 68RFE. High output went only in 3500 pickups with the Aisin AS69RC: 400 hp and 1,000 lb-ft for 2019-2020, then 420 hp and 1,075 lb-ft for 2021-2024, with 16.2:1 compression.

What fails and why

Two problems define this generation. The first is the hydraulic roller lifter, on both outputs and every year from 2019 to 2024. The factory lifters have no needle bearings, run tight tolerances with undersized oil passages, and use a pressed steel alignment dowel that can back out. When a roller collapses or seizes, it gouges the cam and seeds the oil with metal, and out of warranty the dealer fix is a replacement engine. Listen for a typewriter-like tick on cold start that does not fade; metal in the oil and a misfire are the other signs. Some engines have failed inside the first 10,000 miles, and a 100,000-mile engine with no noise is considered high mileage for this design.

The second is the Bosch CP4.2 high-pressure fuel pump on 2019-2020 trucks, which can shed metal through the fuel system. Recall 21V-880 (FCA Y78) replaces the pump, updates the PCM software and inspects fuel-system parts; 2021-2024 trucks were built with a CP3. Two smaller items round it out. Post-injection DPF regenerations can dilute the oil with fuel, and long idling and short, cold trips make it worse. The grid-heater bolt drop that hurt 2007.5-2018 engines is rare on 2019 and newer, but it is a cheap inspection.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

For most owners, stock is the right call: genuine Cummins or MAHLE gaskets and seals, the correct CK-4 oil, and a filter on time. The factory oil interval is 15,000 miles, 6 months or 500 hours, or 12,500 miles if you run B6-B20 biodiesel. If you tow hard or idle a lot, shorten it, and send an oil sample 500 to 1,000 miles before each change so lifter or turbo metal shows up early.

Upgrades make the most sense when you are already inside the engine. If the head is coming off, that is the time to look at a head stud kit. Head-gasket failures are more common on the 6.7L than the 5.9L because of cylinder pressure, and the larger 2019 head bolts were the factory response. For the lifters, the aftermarket offers two answers: solid-lifter conversions and flat-tappet conversions. The flat-tappet kit in this collection, from Hamilton Cams, replaces the camshaft, and no CARB EO is documented for either type of conversion.

What we carry

This collection pulls the whole engine together. For oil, there are engine oils from Hot Shot's Secret and Lucas Oil, including the CK-4 grades this engine calls for, filters from PPE and MAHLE, a new oil pump from Alliant Power, and an oil pan, CCV filter, idler and tensioner from Dorman. Genuine Cummins parts cover the head gasket, oil cooler and its gaskets, front crank seal, cable-style dipstick, valve cover gasket and belt tensioner. MAHLE also supplies head gasket sets and seals. For the top end, XDP offers valve springs, pushrods, rocker trunnions, valve bridges and billet fill caps, and Hamilton Cams has the flat-tappet conversion and a 178/208 cam. Head stud kits come from ARP, PPE and Gator Fasteners, and D&J Precision Machine offers remanufactured and Stage 1 cylinder heads. Belts, tensioners and idlers come from Dayco, and billet valve covers, engine covers and caps come from WCFab, Fleece Performance Engineering and Banks Power.

Fitment notes

Know which engine you have. Standard and high output share the CGI block but differ in compression and calibration. Ram identifies them by sales code, ETL for standard output and ETM for high output, with DF2 for the Aisin transmission; check the build sheet instead of guessing from a VIN digit. Many parts here are listed for long ranges such as 1998.5-2024 or 2007.5-2024. For head studs, make sure the listing names 2019 and up, because the head-bolt diameter grew that year. And do not assume a 2019-2024 part fits a 2025: that engine has a grey-iron block, a CP8 pump, glow plugs, a cartridge oil filter and a new head. When in doubt, verify by VIN or use the fitment checker on the product page.

Frequently asked questions

What oil should I run in a 2019-2024 6.7L Cummins?

Ram's spec is SAE 10W-30 API CK-4 above 0 F, or 5W-40 full synthetic at any temperature, and the engine holds 12.0 quarts with the filter. A Ram TSB says 15W-40 is not to be used in 2019 and newer engines because the thicker oil fails to pressurize the lifters when cold. Running it can also put your warranty at risk.

How do I know if my lifters are failing?

The classic sign is a typewriter-like tick on a cold start that does not fade as the engine warms. Metal in the oil and a misfire are the other warnings. Oil analysis is the recommended early-warning tool, so a sample pulled 500 to 1,000 miles before each change can catch lifter metal early.

Does my truck have the CP4 pump?

If it is a 2019 or 2020, it was built with the Bosch CP4.2 and is covered by recall 21V-880 (FCA Y78), which replaces the pump, updates the PCM software and inspects fuel-system parts as needed. Trucks from 2021 through 2024 were built with a CP3. Run your VIN through a recall lookup to see if the work has been done.

Will these engine parts fit my 2025 Ram?

Do not assume they will. For 2025 the 6.7L went back to a grey-iron block and picked up a CP8 pump, glow plugs in place of the grid heater, a cartridge oil filter and a new head. Check each listing for 2025 coverage before you order.

How long should a 2019-2024 6.7L Cummins last?

The published B10 life for this engine is 250,000 miles and the B50 life is 350,000 miles, the points by which 10 percent and 50 percent of engines are expected to need major work. The lifters are the wild card, which is why the right oil and regular oil analysis matter so much on this generation.
