Call or Text (352) 722-5295Inside the 2019-2024 RAM 6.7L Cummins
The 2019 Cummins kept its 6.7L displacement and its 1-5-3-6-2-4 firing order, and changed most of what sits inside. The block is compacted graphite iron from Tupy with a deep skirt and four-bolt mains. The crank has a 10-bolt flange, the rods are forged steel instead of powdered metal, and the cast-aluminum pistons use larger wrist pins and low-friction rings. The camshaft is a hollow billet-steel piece in the block. On the outside, the exhaust manifold has elongated bolt holes to handle thermal growth, and it hangs the variable-geometry turbo between cylinders 4 and 5, tilted toward the passenger-side firewall.
What fails and why
The internal part with a reputation is the lifter. The factory hydraulic roller lifters have no needle bearings and run undersized oil passages, and when a roller collapses or seizes it gouges the cam and puts metal in the oil. That is why cams, gasket sets and seals tend to land on the same parts order. If the lifters are done in the frame, the cam is pulled with magnets holding the lifters up, and if a lifter drops, the oil pan has to come off. Head gaskets are the other big job. They fail more often on the 6.7L than the 5.9L because of cylinder pressure, which is why Cummins enlarged the head bolts for 2019.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
If you are resealing or repairing a stock engine, start with MAHLE: the HS55525 head gasket set built for 2019-2024, the HS54774-3 head set, the CS54774-1 lower engine gasket set, and front and rear crankshaft seals. The genuine Cummins 4931561 front crank seal is here too, along with the Hamilton Cams top-end gasket kit for 2019-2024. If you are building, XDP has HD high-boost valve springs, performance springs and retainers, a billet rocker arm valve bridge set, an HD rocker arm trunnion set and street performance pushrods made for 2019-2024. Gator Fasteners offers a heavy-duty rod bolt kit for fractured-cap rods and a heavy-duty head stud kit, and the XDP X220 series head stud kit is another option. Hamilton Cams also supplies a 178/208 cast camshaft.
What we carry
Beyond the gasket sets and internals above, this collection includes Fleece Performance Engineering cylinder head dowels, a crankshaft barring tool for turning the engine by hand during service, a billet oil cap cover and a cooling fan extension harness. WCFab has a billet oil fill cap and an engine cover for 2013-2024, and Banks Power has an engine cover with its Revolver billet oil cap. You will also find a Mishimoto replacement engine oil cooler, an Alliant Power oil, fuel and coolant temperature sensor, and a genuine Cummins cable-style oil dipstick. Gasket and seal sets come from MAHLE, the cam and top-end gasket kit from Hamilton Cams, rod bolts and head studs from Gator Fasteners, and valve train and fastener kits from XDP.
Fitment notes
Read the year range on every listing. The MAHLE 68130 front crank seal is listed for 2019-2022, while the Cummins 4931561 covers 2007.5-2026, so 2023-2024 owners should start with the Cummins seal. The Fleece head dowels are listed through 2023 and the barring tool through 2022. Head stud kits must name 2019 and up, because the head-bolt diameter grew that year. Standard-output and high-output engines differ in compression and calibration (Ram sales codes ETL and ETM), so have your build sheet handy for internal parts rather than guessing from a VIN digit. Parts for 2019-2024 should not be assumed to fit a 2025 engine. Verify by VIN or use the fitment checker.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a head set, a lower set, or both?
It depends on how deep you are going. A head gasket job calls for the head gasket set or head set. Lifter work is different: the cam comes out, and if a lifter drops during an in-frame job, the oil pan comes off, so having the MAHLE lower engine gasket set on the shelf saves a wait.
What changed in the bottom end for 2019?
The block went to compacted graphite iron with a deep skirt and four-bolt mains. The crank got a 10-bolt flange, the rods went from powdered metal to forged steel, and the pistons got larger wrist pins and low-friction rings.
Will parts from my 2013-2018 6.7L fit a 2019-2024?
Some will. Plenty of parts here are listed for 1998.5-2024 or 2007.5-2024. But the 2019 head uses larger head bolts, non-adjustable rockers and hydraulic roller lifters, so anything touching the head or valve train needs to list 2019 and up.
