The EcoDiesel runs a single variable-geometry turbo that feeds a factory aftertreatment stack: a diesel oxidation catalyst, a diesel particulate filter that regenerates on its own, and a selective catalytic reduction catalyst dosed with diesel exhaust fluid. NOx sensors sit upstream and downstream of the SCR, and the cluster shows how full the 'exhaust filter' is. Ram's launch spec also lists high-pressure cooled EGR, and every year in this range has it. The 2020-2023 third-generation engine, rated 260 hp and 480 lb-ft against 240 hp and 420 lb-ft for the 2018-2019 engine, added a second, low-pressure EGR loop that pulls exhaust from after the DPF. On those trucks the condition of the filter directly affects EGR flow. Everything in this collection works with that equipment in place.
What fails and why
On this engine the trouble is not in the pipes. The sources we work from document no cracked-exhaust-manifold or broken-manifold-bolt pattern on the EcoDiesel; the manifold problems owners talk about are on the intake side, where the swirl valves soot up. Soot is the common thread. Owners who pull the EGR pipe on a second-generation engine find it caked with carbon, and once that pipe, the EGR valve or the cooler tubes come off, the old gaskets should not go back on. On a 2020-2023 truck the DPF's condition matters twice over, because the low-pressure EGR loop draws from behind it. That is why this collection leans on gaskets as much as on mufflers and tips.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
Stock replacement here means resealing the system the factory built: MAHLE gaskets for the exhaust manifolds, the manifold-to-turbo joint, the exhaust pipe flanges and the EGR circuit. The compliant upgrade path starts after the DPF. MBRP's filter-back systems bolt on behind the filter and leave the aftertreatment in place. The S6169AL in this collection is MBRP's 3.5-inch aluminized, single-side-exit Tour Profile system, and MBRP lists it for 2014-2018 trucks, which in this page's range means the 2018 Ram 1500. Filter-back systems are body-specific: the DS and the DT differ in wheelbase and exhaust exits, and MBRP's listed EcoDiesel systems are for the DS, so a 2020-2023 owner should not assume a DS kit will bolt up. On a DT, a universal muffler, resonator or tip fitted by a shop is how you change sound or looks without a model-specific kit.

Fitment notes
Three trucks share this page. The 2018 Ram 1500 and the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic are both DS-body trucks with the second-generation EcoDiesel. The all-new 2019 DT was never offered with a diesel, so a 2019 EcoDiesel is always a Classic. The 2020-2023 DT trucks carry the third-generation engine, and the 2023 was sold only as a Crew Cab 4x4. The MAHLE gaskets here are labeled 2014-2019, which covers the 2018 and the 2019 Classic; a 2020-2023 owner should match the part number to the old gasket before ordering. This page is for the half-ton Ram 1500 only, because the EcoDiesel was never offered in a 2500 or 3500. Frequently asked questions
Will a filter-back exhaust affect my DPF or SCR?
It should not. A filter-back system starts behind the DPF and leaves the factory aftertreatment in place, so the filter, the SCR catalyst, DEF dosing and the NOx sensors stay where Ram put them. That is what makes it the compliant way to change the exhaust on this truck.
Does the MBRP S6169AL fit a 2020-2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel?
MBRP lists the S6169AL for 2014-2018 trucks. The 2020-2023 DT has a different wheelbase and exit layout than the DS, so a DS system should not be assumed to fit. Call the shop with your VIN and we will check what is available for your truck.
Why does DPF condition matter more on a 2020-2023 EcoDiesel?
The third-generation engine added a low-pressure EGR loop that draws exhaust from after the DPF. On those trucks the filter's condition directly affects EGR flow, so exhaust health and EGR health are tied together. The 'exhaust filter' reading in the cluster is your window into it.
Do EcoDiesel exhaust manifolds crack?
The sources we rely on do not document a cracked-manifold or broken-bolt pattern on this engine. The manifold trouble on the EcoDiesel is on the intake side, at the swirl valves. On the exhaust side, plan on new gaskets when the manifold or turbo comes off for other work.
Should I replace EGR gaskets when the EGR pipe comes off?
