2010-2018 Ram 6.7L Cummins Oil Filters

Oil filters and crankcase ventilation filters for the 2010-2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 6.7L Cummins. Before you spin a new oil filter on, fill it: the factory calls for pre-filling the filter before installation. The oil change interval also doubled with the 2013 overhaul, so know which side of that line your truck sits on.

Oil filtration on the 2010-2018 Ram 6.7L Cummins

The 6.7L Cummins holds 12.0 quarts with the filter. The factory filter is Mopar 5083285AA or Fleetguard LF16035, a Stratapore element, with Fleetguard LF3972 as an alternate. Service intervals split at the 2013 overhaul: 2010-2012 trucks are on 7,500 miles or 6 months, and 2013-2018 trucks moved to 15,000 miles, 6 months or 500 hours.

What to watch between changes

Every DPF-era 6.7L can make oil. The regeneration strategy post-injects fuel on the exhaust stroke, some of it washes past the rings into the crankcase, and the level can climb above full. Ram treats up to 5 percent fuel in the oil as acceptable. It is worst on short trips and long idle time. The recommended defenses are oil analysis, keeping idle under 10 minutes per hour and letting active regens finish at highway speed. A rising level is fuel dilution, not a filter fault.

What we carry

  • MAHLE OC1001 oil filter, listed for 1989-2023 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins.
  • PPE MicroPure XR engine oil filter, listed across 1989-2024 Cummins trucks.
  • Dorman crankcase ventilation (CCV) filter for 2007.5-2024 6.7L engines, plus a CCV filter cover listed for 2007.5-2011.

Fitment notes

The oil filters here cover every 2010-2018 pickup. The Dorman CCV filter cover is listed only through 2011, so on this page it applies to 2010 and 2011 trucks; the CCV filter itself runs through 2024. Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs share the engine but use different filters in places, so verify by VIN or call us. Do not apply 2019-and-newer oil specs to a 2010-2018 truck.

Frequently asked questions

Do I really have to pre-fill the oil filter?

Yes. The factory guidance for the 2007.5-2018 6.7L is to fill the filter before you install it. Fill it, install it, then bring the engine up to the 12.0-quart total and check the dipstick.

How often should I change the oil filter on my Ram?

On 2010-2012 trucks the interval is 7,500 miles or 6 months. On 2013-2018 trucks it is 15,000 miles, 6 months or 500 hours. If your truck idles a lot or runs short trips, fuel dilution is worse, and oil analysis will tell you whether the oil is holding up.
