Call or Text (352) 722-5295Tuning on the 2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
The third-generation 6.7L Powerstroke arrived for 2020 making 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft in pickup form, and the TorqShift 10R140 behind it is rated for that same output. Two computers run this powertrain. The PCM manages the engine, and on diesel trucks a separate TCM controls the 10-speed. That split matters, because Ford's fuel pump recall remedy updated software in both. Calibration carries a lot of weight on this engine. When Ford built the 2023 High-Output 6.7L, it said the added output came primarily from a different PCM calibration, along with a unique turbo, upgraded exhaust manifolds and unique tuning.
Where tuning goes wrong
The first trap is tuning a problem that isn't calibration. Boost leaks, regen events, heat soak and sensor faults can make this engine lug, feel lazy or hunt shifts, and those complaints get blamed on the tune or the transmission. Verify boost and airflow before any tuning or transmission work. The second trap is recall software. Ford's Bosch CP4.2 fuel pump recall, 24S78 (NHTSA 24V957000), updated PCM and TCM software, and the 26S17 re-repair (NHTSA 26V158000) updated PCM software. That software needs to be current, and aftermarket calibration can interfere with a dealer completing the recall.
What counts as compliant
Any tuner, calibration or in-line module sold for California or presented as emissions-compliant must carry a CARB Executive Order number for this exact engine and model year. When we researched this platform, no EO-numbered custom calibration was confirmed for 2020-2022 trucks, so treat custom tuning as verify-before-you-buy. Throttle-response modules sit in a different spot: they change pedal mapping only. Even those need their own EO checked on the exact part number, because a store's category label is not an EO number.
What we carry
This is the 2020-2022 6.7L corner of our tuners category, and it holds interfaces and switch hardware:
- HP Tuners: the MPVI4 interface and the RTD4 in a Southern Diesel Supply Edition.
- Calibrated Power Solutions: the CPS206-139 SOTF switch, listed for 2020-2022 6.7L Powerstroke, and the DSP switch bracket, a no-drill mount listed for 2011-2022 6.7L trucks.
- SPE Motorsport: a 5-position switch bracket listed for 1999-2022 7.3L, 6.0L, 6.4L and 6.7L Powerstroke.
Interfaces and switches are hardware. The EO question belongs to whatever calibration goes through them, so settle it before anything is installed.
Fitment notes
Read the year span on every listing. The CPS switch is titled for 2020-2022, the CPS bracket for 2011-2022 and the SPE bracket for 1999-2022. 2023 is the all-new fifth-generation Super Duty, and interior mounts and body parts from 2020-2022 do not carry over, so a bracket that fits your 2022 is not automatically right for a 2023. The 2023 High-Output engine uses its own engine parts as well. Keep recall software current and verify by VIN.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a CARB-legal tuner for a 2020-2022 F-250 or F-350?
Not one we could confirm. When we researched the 2020-2022 6.7L, no custom calibration with a CARB Executive Order number for these years turned up. Treat any compliance claim as unverified until you see the EO number for your exact engine and year.
Will tuning get in the way of the fuel pump recall?
It can. Ford's CP4.2 recall 24S78 updated PCM and TCM software, and the 26S17 re-repair updated PCM software again. That software needs to be current, and aftermarket calibration can interfere with the dealer completing the recall, so get recall work done first.
My truck feels flat pulling a trailer. Will a tune fix it?
Check the basics before you think about calibration. A boost leak, a regen event, heat soak or a sensor fault can make the 6.7L feel lazy, lug or hunt gears. Verify boost and airflow first, because those faults routinely get blamed on the tune or the transmission.
Why does the separate TCM matter for tuning?
On diesel 10R140 trucks the transmission has its own control module rather than sharing the PCM. Ford's recall remedy updated software in both, so the calibration state of each module matters for warranty and recall compliance.
Which switch bracket fits my truck?
The Calibrated Power Solutions DSP no-drill bracket is listed for 2011-2022 6.7L trucks, and the SPE Motorsport 5-position bracket for 1999-2022 Powerstroke trucks, so a 2020-2022 is covered either way. Those listings stop at 2022, when the new generation changed the interior.
