Call or Text (352) 722-5295Airflow on the 2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
2020 brought the third-generation 6.7L, and Ford reworked the air side along with it. The engine got a new turbo (LC3Z-6K682-A), a composite two-piece lower intake, forged steel pistons at 15.8:1 compression and a 36,000 psi fuel system. Output rose from 450 hp and 935 lb-ft to 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft. The basic layout is unusual. Reverse-flow heads put the intake ports on the outboard side and the exhaust ports in the valley, so the turbo sits between the cylinder banks. The charge air cooler is air-to-water, cooled by coolant from the engine's separate secondary loop instead of by outside air, which makes it much smaller than a traditional air-to-air intercooler.
What a high flow kit means on this truck
There isn't a failure pattern unique to these trucks that forces you into a high flow kit. This is an upgrade category. On the 2020-2022 6.7L, it covers the airflow path from the intake through the intercooler piping and intake manifold, and at the far end, complete turbo systems. Each piece changes how air gets into the engine, so the right choice depends on what you want the truck to do and what your state requires.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
Because Ford already raised output for 2020, modest airflow gains are the realistic compliant path. For a 2020-2022 F-250 or F-350, a compliant airflow stack is built from a CARB-covered intake, boost tubes and a DPF-back exhaust. Before you install any intake or intercooler part on a truck that has to pass an emissions inspection, look for a CARB Executive Order (EO) number for your exact truck and year on the product page. The EO is what proves an aftermarket part is emissions-legal for a specific vehicle, engine and year. If a listing doesn't show one for your truck, don't assume it's covered.
What we carry
SPE Motorsport supplies an intake piping kit listed for 2011-2026 trucks, the S100397 OE+ Performance Intake Manifold Kit listed for 2011-2025, the S400 Emperor Turbo System listed for 2011-2019, and the Emperor Turbo and Intake Piping Kit Ultimate Turbo System Bundle for 2020-up trucks. Wehrli Custom Fabrication makes the WCF100297 Standard Output High Flow Intercooler Pipe Kit for 2017-2026 trucks. If you're shopping turbo systems beyond these, see our turbo collection.
Fitment notes
Read the year range in every title. The S400 Emperor system is listed for 2011-2019, so on a 2020-2022 truck look at the 2020-up Emperor bundle instead. Standard Output in the WCFab title means the regular 6.7L. Ford didn't add the High-Output version until 2023, so every 2020-2022 pickup is standard output. 2023 also brought the fifth-generation Super Duty, and only parts listed for 2023 and later fit those trucks. EO coverage is written truck by truck, and intake coverage for these years can stop at the F-350, leaving out the F-450 and F-550. Chassis cabs run the same 6.7L at a 330 hp and 825 lb-ft rating and are a separate product line. Confirm fitment by VIN.
Frequently asked questions
Will the SPE S400 Emperor Turbo System fit my 2021 F-250?
Not according to its listing, which covers 2011-2019 trucks. 2020 brought a new factory turbo and the third-generation 6.7L, and SPE lists a separate Emperor Turbo and Intake Piping Kit bundle for 2020-up trucks. Verify by VIN before you order.
Are the parts in this collection CARB-legal?
Check each product page for a CARB EO number that names your truck and year. That number is the proof of emissions legality for an aftermarket intake or intercooler part. If you don't see one for your exact truck, treat it as not covered and call us before you install it on a truck that has to pass inspection.
Does the WCFab Standard Output intercooler pipe kit fit a 2022?
Yes, per its 2017-2026 listing. Every 2020-2022 6.7L is the standard-output engine, since the High-Output version arrived with the 2023 trucks. Confirm by VIN with the fitment checker.
How much power does a high flow kit add?
Look at the manufacturer's rating on each product page, and keep expectations grounded. The 2020-2022 engine already makes 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft stock. On a truck that makes that much from the factory, airflow parts alone are a modest-gain upgrade.
What changed on the intake side for 2020?
For 2020, Ford moved to a composite two-piece lower intake and a new turbo as part of the third-generation 6.7L. That's why year ranges matter in this collection. Some parts, like SPE's intake manifold kit and intake piping kit, are listed back to 2011, and others are split by year.
