The 2020-2022 6.7L Powerstroke holds 13.0 quarts of oil with the filter. Ford calls for the Motorcraft FL-2051S filter, the one named in the 2021 owner's manual, with 10W-30 oil meeting WSS-M2C171-F1 and 5W-40 or 15W-40 for severe duty. Ford's 2022 schedule changes oil and filter every 7,500 to 10,000 miles or when the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor calls for it, not to exceed one year or 350 engine hours. Severe duty drops that to 5,000 miles or 200 hours.
What fails and why
Every 6.7L year can make oil. During DPF regeneration the engine injects extra fuel to burn soot, and some of that fuel can wash past the rings into the crankcase. Short trips and long idle time make it worse. Watch for a dipstick level that climbs between changes, oil that looks thin, or a diesel smell in the oil. That is the reason Ford counts engine hours and lets the monitor set the interval, and it is why the filter belongs in every oil change, not every other one.
What we carry
For the filter itself, you have the MAHLE OC1662 engine oil filter and the PPE 314000767 MicroPure XR, both listed for 2011-2025 6.7L engines. SPE Motorsport adds two system parts: an oil filter housing and the S100317 oil pump volume solenoid block-off, listed for 2020-2025 6.7L engines. The block-off is a build part, not a service item, so read its product page before you order it.
Fitment notes
Read the SPE oil filter housing listing closely: it is titled for the 2011-2023 F-650 and F-750 6.7L, so confirm it against your VIN before ordering it for a pickup. The solenoid block-off starts at 2020 and is not a part for a 2011-2019 engine. The MAHLE and PPE filters are listed for 2011-2025. Chassis cab and pickup 6.7Ls run different turbos and calibrations, so check by VIN on anything beyond the filter itself.
Frequently asked questions
What oil filter does Ford use on the 2020-2022 6.7L Powerstroke?
Ford's part is the Motorcraft FL-2051S, the filter named in the 2021 owner's manual. The MAHLE OC1662 and the PPE MicroPure XR on this page are aftermarket filters listed for the 6.7L across 2011-2025, which includes your years.
How often should the oil filter be changed on a 2020-2022 6.7L?
Every oil change. Ford's 2022 schedule runs 7,500-10,000 miles or the oil life monitor in normal service, never more than one year or 350 engine hours, and 5,000 miles or 200 hours in severe duty.
Why does Ford count engine hours for oil service?
Because the engine can add fuel to the oil without racking up miles. Regen fuel that gets past the rings thins the oil, and short trips and idling make it worse, so a truck that idles a lot can need service before the odometer says so.
