Call or Text (352) 722-5295Engine components on the 2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
The 6.7L Powerstroke is an overhead-valve, cam-in-block pushrod V8 with four valves per cylinder, two intake and two exhaust, for 32 valves in all. The glow plugs are ceramic, one per cylinder. For 2020 Ford updated the internals with forged steel short-skirt pistons at 15.8:1 compression, strengthened powdered-metal fractured-cap rods, and a medium-carbon alloy steel crankshaft with a revised damper. The crankcase ventilation system sends oil mist through the valve cover breather and into the charge-air system, which matters when you are chasing oil where it should not be.
What to look for
The internals on this engine are not where trouble usually starts. The known weak point is the CP4.2 fuel pump, which can send metal through the injectors, rails and lines when it fails, and that lives in the fuel system, not on this page. The one component behavior worth knowing here is crankcase vapor. Because CCV oil mist feeds into the charge-air side, an oily intercooler or boost tube is a CCV symptom first. Do not condemn the turbo seals until you have looked at the CCV system.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
Gaskets, seals and thrust washers go back as stock replacements, and MAHLE's gasket sets and thrust washer set are the stock-style route for a reseal or a rebuild. The billet and performance pieces are for owners building an engine: pushrods, titanium valve spring retainers, an oil pump gear and a prepped, TIG-welded crank. If your truck is a daily driver or tow rig with a healthy engine, you do not need them. If the engine is already apart, they are worth a conversation with us before it goes back together.
What we carry
- MAHLE: valve cover gasket sets (left, right and complete), a vacuum pump gasket and a thrust washer set.
- SPE Motorsport: titanium valve spring retainers, a billet oil pump gear, a prepped and TIG-welded crank, billet oil caps and an internal CCV catch can.
- XDP street performance pushrods in 3/8 inch.
- Billet oil fill caps from PPE and WCFab.
- A BD Diesel high idle control listed for 2017-2022 Powerstroke trucks.
- A Dorman clutch fan blade and a Fleece Performance Engineering cooling fan pigtail.
Fitment notes
Many parts here are listed across 2011-2025 because they bolt to pieces Ford did not change. Internal parts are a different story. Pistons, rods and the crank changed for 2020, so match the year before you buy anything that goes inside the block. The MAHLE valve cover gasket sets are listed for 2011-2020, so 2021 and 2022 owners should confirm by VIN. The SPE prepped crank is listed for 2011-2020+, so call before you order it for a 2020-2022 build.
Frequently asked questions
What does a high idle control do?
It lets you set and hold a higher idle speed with the truck parked. The BD Diesel unit here is listed for 2017-2022 Powerstroke trucks, which covers 2020-2022 F-250 and F-350 models. Check the product page for any notes on options before you order.
My intercooler pipes are oily. Is my turbo going?
Not necessarily. On the 6.7L, crankcase oil mist passes through the valve cover breather into the charge-air system, so oil in the intercooler path is a CCV symptom before it is a turbo seal failure. Check the CCV side first.
Do I need billet internals on a stock 2020-2022 truck?
No. Ford gave the 2020 engine forged steel pistons, strengthened rods and a new steel crank, and the rotating assembly is not the known weak point. Billet and performance parts make sense when the engine is already apart for a rebuild or a build.
