Oil filtration on the 2017-2019 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

The 6.7L uses a gerotor oil pump in the front cover, and the system holds 13.0 quarts with the filter. Filter and oil changes carry extra weight on this engine because of fuel dilution. During active DPF regeneration, post-injection fuel can wash past the rings into the crankcase, which raises the oil level and thins the oil. Trucks that idle a lot or run short stop-and-go trips see it worst, and those trucks should shorten the oil interval and watch the dipstick level.

What we carry

For the engine oil filter, you can choose between the MAHLE OC1662 and the PPE MicroPure XR (314000767), both catalogued for the 6.7L Powerstroke. The collection also has a Dorman 904-702 crankcase ventilation (CCV) filter listed for 2017-2019 6.7L cab-and-chassis trucks, and an SPE Motorsport oil filter housing catalogued for the F-650/750 6.7L. Read the fitment line on each title before you add it to the cart. The rest of the engine is on our Power Stroke parts hub.

CCV filter fitment

The CCV oil separator bolts to the driver-side valve cover and vents to the turbo inlet. When it loads up with oil mist, crankcase pressure rises and oil gets pushed into the turbo inlet and intercooler. Not every truck has a replaceable element: 2018-2022 pickups use a filter-less separator with a removable lid, and 2016-2019 trucks may have mixed types. Ford's factory interval of about 100,000 miles is listed for DRW and chassis-cab trucks, while independent service guidance puts the job at 30,000-40,000 miles. Look at your separator, or verify by VIN, before buying an element.

Frequently asked questions

What oil filter does a 2017-2019 6.7L Powerstroke take?

Ford's part is the Motorcraft FL-2124S, which replaced the older FL-2051S number. The MAHLE OC1662 and PPE MicroPure XR in this collection are both catalogued for the 6.7L Powerstroke. Plan on 13.0 quarts of oil with the filter change.

Does my truck use a replaceable CCV filter?

It depends on the separator. 2018-2022 pickups use a filter-less separator with a removable lid, and 2016-2019 trucks may have mixed types, so look at the unit on the driver-side valve cover before ordering. The Dorman 904-702 element here is listed for 2017-2019 cab-and-chassis trucks.
