Call or Text (352) 722-5295Tuning on the 2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
Ford called 2015 the second-generation 6.7L. The 2011-2014 DualBoost turbo gave way to a larger Garrett GT3788V variable-geometry turbo, the injectors got new high-pressure nozzles, and the rating climbed to 440 hp at 2,800 rpm and 860 lb-ft at 1,600 rpm. Calibration does a lot of the work on this engine. Early 2011 trucks went from 390 hp to 400 hp and 800 lb-ft with a free PCM reflash and no hardware change. That is also why tuning is sold by model year here: 2015-2016 calibrations differ from 2011-2014 and 2017-2019, and the F-350 through F-550 chassis cab, rated 300 hp, runs a different calibration again.
What goes wrong
Most tuning headaches on these trucks start before the tune. Ford issued PCM software campaigns on these years, including 15V175 for a false over-temperature shutdown and 14V204 for reverse-engagement software on certain 2015 builds, so confirm your recall software is current before you add anything that works with the PCM. Heat is the other one. The EO-numbered in-line module documented for these trucks, for example, adds no power below 120 F coolant, tapers from 230 F and is fully off at 240 F. If added power drops out when the truck is hot, check the cooling system before you blame the tune.
Stock calibration vs. compliant upgrades
The factory calibration is a known quantity, and for a truck that tows hard every day it is a fair place to stay. If you want more, two rules apply. First, any custom calibration for this engine has to keep EGR, the DOC, the DPF and SCR in place and working, and it has to carry its own CARB EO number. Second, in EO states the EO decal is requested from the manufacturer and checked at inspection. Gains are also year-specific because the factory calibration differs: that EO-numbered module is rated up to 72 hp and 148 lb-ft on 2011-2014 trucks, but up to 61 hp and 120 lb-ft on 2015-2016.
What we carry
This collection centers on the hardware around a custom calibration. From HP Tuners there is the MPVI4 vehicle interface and the RTD4 in a Southern Diesel Supply Edition. SPE Motorsport supplies a plug-and-play five-position SOFT switch for 2011-2019 6.7L Powerstroke trucks and a five-position switch bracket listed for 1999-2022 7.3L, 6.0L, 6.4L and 6.7L Powerstroke trucks. Calibrated Power Solutions adds a no-drill DSP switch bracket for 2011-2022 6.7L trucks. The switches and brackets don't add power on their own; they work with a calibration written to use a selector. For more options, see the full tuners category.
Fitment notes
Read the year range on every listing. Calibrations are year-specific, while switches and brackets span wider ranges: the SPE SOFT switch lists 2011-2019, the Calibrated Power bracket 2011-2022 and the SPE bracket 1999-2022. Chassis cab trucks are a separate calibration from pickups. Before installing anything, confirm recall software is current and the cooling system is healthy. Verify by VIN, use the fitment checker on the product page, or call the shop.
Frequently asked questions
Can I tune a 2015-2016 6.7L Powerstroke and stay emissions-legal?
Yes, if the product carries a CARB Executive Order number and keeps EGR, the DOC, the DPF and SCR in place and working. In EO states, request the EO decal from the manufacturer for inspection. If a tuner can't give you an EO number for your year, don't load it.
Will a tune for a 2014 work on my 2016?
No. The 2015-2016 trucks got a different turbo, new injector nozzles and a 440 hp / 860 lb-ft calibration, and tuning products select maps by model year. 2011-2014, 2015-2016 and 2017-2019 are each their own calibration, and chassis cab trucks are different again.
Why does my truck lose added power when it gets hot?
If you run the EO-numbered module for these trucks, that is its thermal protection: it adds nothing below 120 F coolant, starts pulling power back at 230 F and is fully off at 240 F. If that happens on a normal day, have the cooling system checked.
Do I need Ford's software updates before tuning?
Confirm them first. Ford issued PCM campaigns on these years, including 15V175 for a false over-temperature shutdown and 14V204 for reverse-engagement software on certain 2015 builds. Check your VIN for open campaigns before anything else goes on the truck.
What does a five-position switch do?
It lets you choose between positions in a calibration written to read the switch, from the cab. The SPE SOFT switch is plug-and-play on 2011-2019 6.7L Powerstroke trucks, and SPE and Calibrated Power both offer switch brackets; check that the bracket matches your switch. The switch adds nothing by itself, and the calibration behind it has to meet the same CARB EO rules.
