The 6.7L Powerstroke holds 13.0 quarts with the filter, moved through the engine by a gerotor oil pump in the front cover. Ford's service filter is the Motorcraft FL-2124S, which supersedes the earlier FL-2051S. It uses synthetic media with about 21% more filter mass and a silicone anti-drainback valve. Ford allows up to 10,000 miles between changes in normal service and 5,000 miles in severe service.
Why the interval matters on this engine
Every 6.7L can see fuel dilution. During active DPF regeneration the engine post-injects fuel, and some of it ends up in the crankcase. Up to 5% between changes is considered normal, above 5% is abnormal and above 7% is severe. It's worst on trucks that idle a lot or make short trips. The signs are a rising dipstick level, thin oil and a fuel smell in the oil. That's why the usual recommendation for this engine is a 5,000-mile oil and filter change unless you're using oil analysis to track it.

How often should I change the oil filter on a 2015-2016 6.7L Powerstroke?
Change it every time you change the oil. Ford's maximum is 10,000 miles in normal service and 5,000 in severe service, but because regeneration can dilute the oil with fuel, a 5,000-mile interval is the safer plan unless oil analysis says otherwise.
