Call or Text (352) 722-5295Fuel rails on the 2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
The Bosch CP4.2 on the 6.7L Powerstroke charges two common rails, one per bank, to roughly 30,000 psi, and each rail feeds four of the eight piezo injectors. This collection also carries an electronic pressure regulator (DRV) and a leak rail assembly for the injector return side. The rails are sold by side: XDP labels them driver and passenger, and Exergy labels them LH and RH.
What fails and why
The rails sit downstream of the CP4.2, and that is the problem. Aerated or low-lubricity fuel lets the pump wear and shed metal, and that metal reaches the rails, the MPROP and the return. A CP4.2 event puts both rails on the parts list alongside the pump, all eight injectors and every high-pressure line, plus a cleaning of the tank and low-pressure lines. On the diagnosis side, P0087 low rail pressure is not proof of a dead pump or a bad rail. Restricted filters, weak low-pressure supply, air leaks, electrical faults or excessive injector return can all set it, so test low-side pressure and inspect the filter first. Return-side repairs are their own job, which is why an injector return line repair fitting is in this collection.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
For a stock repair, new rails go back in as direct replacements: new XDP driver and passenger assemblies or Exergy new stock replacement LH and RH rails. Exergy also supplies the leak rail assembly and the DRV pressure regulator. If the rail job comes out of a pump failure, a contamination kit from Alliant Power or XDP, with or without the pump, is built for the wider cleanup. Builds that add a pump or change plumbing use rail fittings: M18x1.5 rail plugs, M18 rail-end to M14 adapters, M14 tees, rail caps and -6AN or -8AN CP3 supply fittings. Check CARB EO status on any alternate-pump setup before you build it on a truck registered in an emissions-controlled state.
What we carry
From Exergy Performance: new stock replacement LH and RH rails, the leak rail assembly, the electronic pressure regulator, and the rail plugs, adapters, tees, caps and supply fittings. From XDP: the XD603 driver-side and XD604 passenger-side new rail assemblies plus the XD514 and XD611 contamination kits. Alliant Power supplies the AP57000 and AP57000NP contamination kits, and Fleece Performance Engineering offers the FPE-FMC-FF-RLK-1116 injector return line repair fitting.
Fitment notes
The XDP and Exergy rails are listed for 2011-2019 trucks, the contamination kits for 2011-2014, and the Fleece return fitting for 2011-2016. Order the correct side. High-pressure lines are one-time-use, so any rail swap needs new lines between the pump, rails and injectors. Confirm your truck by VIN before ordering, and call us if a listing's year range does not match yours.
Frequently asked questions
Do the rails have to be replaced after a CP4.2 failure?
Yes. Metal from a failed CP4.2 reaches the rails, the MPROP and the return, and the repair includes the pump, both rails, all eight injectors, every high-pressure line and a cleaning of the tank and low-pressure lines.
My truck sets P0087. Is it the rail or the pump?
Maybe neither. Restricted filters, weak low-pressure supply, air leaks, electrical faults and excessive injector return can all set P0087. Test low-side pressure and inspect the fuel filter for metal before you replace high-pressure parts.
Do I need new lines when I replace a rail?
Yes. The high-pressure lines on the 2011-2014 6.7L are one-time-use and must be replaced any time they are opened. Order the line kits with the rail.
