Call or Text (352) 722-5295Engine components on the 2011-2014 6.7L Powerstroke
Ford built this 6.7L Powerstroke V8 on a compacted graphite iron block with aluminum reverse-flow heads, a pushrod cam-in-block valvetrain and four valves per cylinder. The engine oil cooler bolts to the block; Ford revised it for 2012 so it mounts without hidden hardware. Each cylinder gets one ceramic glow plug, managed by a glow plug control unit. The closed crankcase ventilation (CCV) oil separator sits on top of the driver-side valve cover. The parts in this collection keep all of that sealed, sensed and turning: gaskets, seals, sensors, oil coolers and valvetrain hardware.
What fails and why
- Vacuum pump leaks. On 2011-2016 engines the vacuum pump gasket and loose mounting bolts let oil onto the front cover. Reseal it and thread-lock the bolts.
- Bell housing leaks. Upper oil pan and rear cover leaks collect at the bell housing and get blamed on the rear main seal. Fixing them takes 10 to 15 hours with the transmission out or the engine lifted.
- Oil cooler failure. At high mileage a failing oil cooler pushes oil temperatures up or mixes oil and coolant.
- Clogged CCV separator. It raises crankcase pressure and pushes oil past seals that were fine, so a truck suddenly leaking from several gaskets at once may need a separator before it needs gaskets.
- Early 2011 exhaust valves. On engines built on or before March 29, 2011, exhaust valves could break. Early failures were blamed on glow plug tips, but owners report the root cause was the cylinder heads and exhaust valves.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
For a reseal or a refresh on a stock engine, stay OE-grade: MAHLE gasket sets and Alliant Power sensors are the straight replacements. The oil cooler gives you a real choice, since Mishimoto sells both a replacement cooler for a direct swap and a performance cooler. The valvetrain parts are a different category. SPE Motorsport chromoly pushrods and Stage-2 valve springs, and XDP Street Performance pushrods, are for engines being built past stock power. For the CCV system, the baseline is replacing the separator every 30,000 to 40,000 miles; SPE's recirculating CCV kit and internal catch can are there for owners who want more than a separator swap.
What we carry
MAHLE carries the gasket side: head sets, left and right head gaskets, the lower engine gasket set, timing cover gasket and seal, rear main seal set, injection pump mounting gasket kit, valve cover gasket sets, vacuum pump gasket, piston ring sets in standard, .020 and .040, and a thrust washer set. Alliant Power supplies a vacuum pump, the glow plug control unit, crankshaft and camshaft position sensors, the oil pressure sensor and a two-wire pigtail. Mishimoto has replacement and performance oil coolers, Dorman has the clutch fan blade and upper fan shroud, Fleece Performance Engineering has a cooling fan adapter harness, and PPE has a billet oil fill cap. SPE Motorsport covers chromoly pushrods, Stage-2 valve springs, a billet oil pump gear and CCV parts, and XDP adds Street Performance pushrods.
Fitment notes
Watch the year ranges in the product titles. Some MAHLE parts, like the head sets, the lower engine gasket set and the timing cover gasket, are listed for 2011-2014 only, while the head gaskets, rear main seal set and valve cover gaskets run through 2019 or 2020. The oil cooler hardware changed for 2012, so a 2011 can need different mounting parts. Glow plugs split by build date, December 1, 2012, not by model year: Motorcraft ZD-17 before that date and ZD-18 after. Piston ring sets come in standard and oversize, so match the ring size to how the cylinders were machined. Verify by VIN before you order.
Frequently asked questions
Oil is collecting at my bell housing. Do I need a rear main seal?
Check the upper oil pan and rear cover first. Their leaks run to the bell housing and are frequently misdiagnosed as a rear main. Since the repair means 10 to 15 hours with the transmission out or the engine lifted, it pays to be sure; the MAHLE rear main seal set is here if that is what you find.
What are the signs of a failing oil cooler on the 6.7L?
Higher oil temperatures, or oil and coolant mixing, usually at high mileage. The 2012-and-later cooler bolts to the block without hidden hardware, which makes the swap simpler than on a 2011. Mishimoto offers a replacement cooler and a performance cooler.
Do I need performance pushrods and valve springs?
Not on a stock engine going back together after a gasket job. SPE's chromoly pushrods and Stage-2 valve springs, or XDP's Street Performance pushrods, are for engines built for more power. If you are not sure where your build falls, call the shop before you order.
How often should the CCV separator be changed?
Every 30,000 to 40,000 miles. A clogged one raises crankcase pressure, causes new leaks at several gaskets, loads the intercooler and charge pipes with oil and has been linked to turbo oil-seal failure. Many owners report a 1 to 2 mpg gain after the swap.
