2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Cooling Parts

Replacement and upgrade cooling parts for the 2011-2014 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 with the 6.7L Powerstroke: thermostats, housings, hoses, O-rings, gaskets, oil cooler parts, sensors, water pumps and support pieces. Know this first: the engine runs two cooling loops with different thermostats, so a primary part and a secondary part are not interchangeable.

Cooling parts on the 2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

The primary loop on the 6.7L Powerstroke runs a dual thermostat that opens at 194°F and 201°F and cools the block, heads, oil cooler, turbo and heater core. The secondary loop has its own radiator with thermostat-controlled outlets at 140°F, on the passenger side feeding the EGR cooler and transmission cooler, and at 113°F. Thermostats, hoses and housings are built for the loop they serve, which is why so many listings here say primary or secondary.

What fails and why

The parts that get replaced most on these engines are the water pump, the primary thermostat assembly, the oil cooler T-line, the radiator hose O-rings, the turbo coolant fitting and the fan clutch. On 2011-2014 trucks, the turbo coolant inlet fitting (a 2011 design) and the oil cooler T-line and radiator hose O-rings leak, which shows up as coolant seeping in the valley or around the oil cooler. The water pump is the single most common coolant leak; it weeps from its weep hole onto the lower radiator hose.

Some leaks hide. If the secondary bottle drops with nothing on the ground, the air-to-water intercooler or the EGR cooler may be leaking internally, and a pressure test of the secondary system is how owners usually find it.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

For a leak, start with OE-style parts: the correct thermostat, fresh O-rings and gaskets, and replacement hoses and lines. That's the right fix for most trucks, from an XL fleet unit to a Platinum. If you're already in there, this is when upgrades make sense: a billet thermostat housing, a silicone hose kit, a low-temperature thermostat or a coolant filtration system. A low-temperature thermostat is built to open below the factory 194°F/201°F primary; if you're not sure it suits how you use the truck, call us.

Fitment notes

Primary and secondary thermostats are different parts, and the Alliant secondary thermostats are side-specific: AP63541 is the high-temp right side, AP63542 the low-temp left side. Check the year range on each listing. A few parts here are 2011-2014 only, such as the Dorman 626-717 inlet heater hose and the Mishimoto silicone overflow hose. Many are 2011-2016, and others run to 2019, 2025 or later. F-350, F-450 and F-550 chassis cabs use a different turbo and calibration from the pickups, so verify turbo-area coolant parts on those by VIN. When you refill, fill the right degas bottle; filling or pressure-testing the wrong system is an easy mistake.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a primary or a secondary thermostat?

It depends on which loop you're working on. The primary is a dual thermostat that opens at 194°F and 201°F. The secondary loop's outlets are controlled at 140°F and 113°F. In this collection, Alliant's AP63540 and MAHLE's TX44390 are primary thermostats, and Alliant's AP63541 and AP63542 are the secondary pair.

Is a low-temperature thermostat a good idea?

It's an option, not a repair. A unit like SPE's S100119 or Mishimoto's low-temperature primary opens earlier than the factory 194°F/201°F thermostat. If your truck runs hot under tow, check the cooling stack, fan clutch and charge-air connections first, since that's where most towing heat problems come from.

Coolant is seeping around my oil cooler. What should I order?

On 2011-2014 trucks, the oil cooler T-line and radiator hose O-rings are known leak points, along with the 2011 turbo coolant inlet fitting. Find the exact source first. Dorman's 904-381 oil cooler and its inlet and outlet lines, plus MAHLE's C32248 upper radiator hose O-ring, are all here.
