The Merchant Automotive 10402 Speed Sensor Connector is a wired replacement connector for the Allison transmission and transfer case speed sensors on 2001-2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra heavy-duty trucks with the 6.6L Duramax. You buy it when the factory connector has gone brittle, the locking tab has broken and the plug no longer holds a solid connection.

Fitment

Fits 2001-2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500/3500HD trucks with the 6.6L Duramax: LB7 (2001-2004), LLY (2004.5-2005), LBZ (2006-2007), LMM (2007.5-2010), LML (2011-2016) and L5P (2017-2019). The listing stops at 2019, so verify fitment by VIN on any L5P truck.

Merchant Automotive lists three places it goes:

  • The transfer case speed sensor connector on 2001 to early-2007 Silverado and Sierra trucks
  • The Allison transmission speed sensor connectors on 2001-2019 trucks
  • The three speed sensors on two-wheel-drive Medium Duty Allison 2000 transmissions, 2001-2019

Count your connectors before you order. Two-wheel-drive trucks have two or three speed sensors in the Allison transmission. Four-wheel-drive trucks have one or two in the Allison transmission plus one in the transfer case. Shop the rest of our Duramax parts while you are at it.

Why this part

The factory connector terminal can become brittle over time. The weak spot is the locking tab: on an old connector it can become brittle and break, and then the plug can sit loose on the sensor. A loose connection can cause erratic signals, and erratic signals lead to frustrating problems that are hard to pin down. Both the transfer case and Allison sensor locations can crack and fatigue over time, and the 10402 is built to replace either one.

This is the part to reach for when both the connector and the wiring are damaged. Instead of a bare plug, you get a new connector with wires already attached. You join its leads to the existing wires in the truck with the supplied butt connectors, so a cracked plug and a stretch of damaged wire get fixed in one repair.

What you get

  • Merchant Automotive 10402 transfer case and Allison transmission speed sensor connector with wires
  • A pair of heat shrink-insulated 22-gauge butt connector terminals to connect the leads from the new connector to the existing wires in the truck
  • Manufacturer warranty: 1 Year Limited

Features, as Merchant Automotive lists them:

  • Designed To Replace Factory Connector Terminals For Improved Durability
  • Suitable For Use In Both Transfer Case Speed Sensor Connectors On Silverado And Sierra Trucks And Allison Transmission Speed Sensor Connectors
  • Provides A Reliable And Secure Connection To Prevent Erratic Signals
  • Enhances The Overall Performance And Reliability Of The Speed Sensor Connections In These Vehicles

About Merchant Automotive

Merchant Automotive has built parts in Holland, Michigan since 2004, with a catalog centered on the 6.6L Duramax and the Allison transmission behind it. A good share of that catalog is transmission and transfer case hardware, from Allison 1000 PTO billet side covers to transfer case pump upgrade kits, so a speed sensor connector is right in their lane.

Frequently asked questions

How many of these does my truck need?

It depends on the drivetrain. Two-wheel-drive trucks have two or three speed sensors in the Allison. Four-wheel-drive trucks have one or two in the Allison and one in the transfer case. Replace the connectors that are cracked, loose or have damaged wiring.

Will it fit my transfer case speed sensor?

Merchant Automotive lists the transfer case location for 2001 to early-2007 Silverado and Sierra trucks. On later trucks it is listed for the Allison speed sensor connectors, so call us before using it on a newer transfer case.

How do I connect it to the truck's wiring?

The kit includes a pair of heat shrink-insulated 22-gauge butt connector terminals. You use them to join the leads on the new connector to the existing wires in the truck.
