The Mag-Hytec 727-DD extra deep transmission pan fits the 727-family automatics behind the 5.9L Cummins in 1989-2007 Dodge D/W and Ram trucks. It is finned aircraft grade aluminum, holds 4 quarts more than stock and comes with a magnetic drain plug, a Transtar gasket and a 1/8 NPT temperature sender port. You buy it for the extra fluid and cooling of a deep sump.
Fitment
Listed for 1989-2007 Dodge trucks with the 5.9L Cummins and an automatic transmission from Mag-Hytec's application list: the 1989-1993 Dodge Ram D250/D350 and Power Ram W250/W350 (12-valve), 1994-1998 12-valve and 1998.5-2002 24-valve Dodge Ram 2500/3500, and 2003-2007 common-rail Dodge Ram 2500/3500. The application list runs the 46RE/47RE from 1996 to 2001 and the 48RE from 2003 to 2007, so it does not name 2002. If you have a 2002 truck, verify fitment by VIN or call us before you order. Manual-transmission trucks do not use this pan. Mag-Hytec says you must check for clearance, since an extra deep pan sits lower than stock. Shop more parts for these trucks on our Cummins page.
Why this part
The deep sump is the point of this pan. Holding 4 quarts more than the stock pan puts more fluid in the transmission to carry heat, and the finned aluminum bottom gives that heat more surface to leave through. Because the pan is extra deep, Mag-Hytec includes a filter spacer block for the overdrive 727 transmission bodies. The magnetic drain plug collects fine wear metal so it stays out of the fluid between services. The built-in 1/8" temperature port gives you an easy location to install a sender for a transmission temperature gauge, so you can see what the fluid is doing on a long pull with a trailer behind you. On a transmission that has been working behind a Cummins for years, that kind of information is worth having.

Installation notes
Mag-Hytec says the pan requires only three Allen key wrenches for installation and service, and all three are in the box. Before you install, check for clearance under the transmission: this is an extra deep pan and Mag-Hytec says clearance must be checked. On the overdrive 727 transmission bodies, use the included filter spacer block. Order a filter separately, and plan on about 4 more quarts of fluid than a stock pan change.

Mag-Hytec lists the 36RH/37RH, the 46RH/47RH (also called the A-518), the 46RE/47RE and the 48RE. Behind the 5.9L Cummins, that covers 1989-2007 trucks. The list does not name the 2002 model year, so 2002 owners should verify by VIN or call us.
What comes in the box?

Will an extra deep pan hit anything?
