2019-2024 Ram 6.7L Cummins Tools

Shop tools for working on the 2019-2024 Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 6.7L Cummins: cam and valvetrain tools, thread chasers, a transmission filter socket, a boost tester, hose and grease tools, benches and trays. One thing to know on this truck: the Security Gateway Module blocks write functions through the OBD port unless your scan tool has authorized access.

Working on the 2019-2024 Ram 6.7L Cummins

The 2019 redesign of the 6.7L Cummins changed what a lot of jobs require. The engine went to hydraulic lifters, so there is no 150,000-mile valve-lash service. When a lifter or camshaft job is done with the engine in the frame, you need magnets and a cam-tunnel trough to keep parts under control. Other jobs lean on electronics. After a 68RFE transmission install, a dealer-level scan tool runs the TCM Quick Learn and PI Curve Relearn, which is called for to prevent clutch failure right after the install. A replacement turbo actuator needs a VGT relearn. On 2018 and newer Ram trucks, the Security Gateway Module blocks write functions such as tire size changes, flashing, remote start and bidirectional scan unless the tool has authorized access.

What the jobs on this truck call for

Tools do not wear out the way truck parts do, so this section is about what the service work on these trucks demands. Front-end work needs a ball-joint press, and track bar bolts take 200-plus ft-lb with the final torque set at ride height. Checking DEF concentration calls for a refractometer, with the spec at 32.5 percent. Valve spring work on a 24-valve Cummins needs a spring compressor. Damaged threads in brackets and housings get cleaned up with a thread chaser before you torque anything. Boost leaks get found by pressurizing the intake with a boost tester. If your truck has the factory rear air suspension or added air springs, an air line hose cutter makes clean cuts on the lines.

Specialty tools vs. what is already in your box

Most work on this truck starts with ordinary hand tools. Specialty tools earn their place on jobs where the wrong tool costs you time or parts: the DNR Customs cam removal tray for 2019 and newer engines, the XDP valve spring compressor for 24-valve Cummins heads, and the PPE billet aluminum transmission fluid filter socket, sized 68mm with 14 flutes. Shop equipment like the WCFab modular steel work benches and the S&B flexible silicone tool tray is not truck-specific, but it keeps any job on a full-size diesel organized.

Fitment notes

Check the year range on the vehicle-specific tools. The DNR cam removal tray is listed for 2019-2026 6.7L Cummins, and the tray with the removal and install kit for 2019-2024. The XDP XD311 spring compressor is listed for 1998.5-2024 5.9L and 6.7L 24-valve engines, and the PPE filter socket for 2007.5-2024 6.7L Cummins. Thread chasers go by thread size, so confirm the size before you order. The boost tester inlet adapter is sized for S300, S400, S400R and S500 turbos; the factory turbo on these trucks is a Holset HE300VG, so check which turbo is on your truck first. Benches, trays and hand tools fit any shop.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a special scan tool to work on a 2019-2024 Ram 6.7L Cummins?

For some jobs, yes. The Security Gateway Module on 2018 and newer Ram trucks blocks write functions like tire size changes, flashing, remote start and bidirectional scan without authorized access. A 68RFE install calls for TCM Quick Learn and PI Curve Relearn with a dealer-level tool, and a new turbo actuator needs a VGT relearn.

What do I need for a cam or lifter job on a 2019 or newer 6.7L?

If the engine stays in the frame, plan on magnets and a cam-tunnel trough. The DNR Customs cam removal tray is built for the 2019 and newer 6.7L, and it is offered alone or with a complete removal and install kit.

Will the XDP valve spring compressor work on my truck?

The XD311 is listed for 24-valve 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins engines from 1998.5 through 2024, so it covers the 2019-2024 Ram 2500 and 3500. It is not listed for 12-valve engines.

What torque do the track bar bolts need on these trucks?

Track bar bolts take 200-plus ft-lb, and the final torque should be set with the truck at ride height. Make sure your torque wrench reaches that range before you start.

Does the Stealth Boost Tester inlet adapter fit the factory turbo?

The inlet adapter we list is sized for S300, S400, S400R and S500 turbos, and the factory turbo on 2019-2024 trucks is a Holset HE300VG. Check which turbo is on your truck before ordering the adapter, and call if you are unsure.
