2014-2017 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel Fuel Rail Parts

Fuel rail plugs, rail ends, unions and high-pressure fittings for the 2014-2017 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel. This engine holds up to 2,000 bar, about 29,000 psi, in two common rails, so every plug and adapter has to match the thread exactly. If you are in the rails after a CP4.2 failure, check everything for metal first.

The fuel rails on the 2014-2017 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel

VM Motori's 3.0L V6 runs Bosch high-pressure common rail injection. The CP4.2 twin-plunger pump is driven gear-to-gear off the exhaust camshaft and maintains pressure in two rails. Those rails feed six solenoid injectors, one per cylinder, and the system can fire up to eight injection events per cycle. Everything bolted to a rail sees full pressure, so plugs, unions and adapters are precision parts, not hardware-store fittings.

What goes wrong

The rails are where CP4.2 trouble can show itself. In NHTSA complaints, metal shavings found in the fuel pressure regulator are a documented symptom of CP4.2 failure, along with hard starts, stalling, loss of power and a check engine light. Recall 22V-406, FCA campaign Z46, covers 2014-2019 Ram 1500 EcoDiesels, and the recall procedure inspects and replaces contaminated rails, injectors and lines, not just the pump. If metal has reached your rails, treat them as suspect until they have been inspected.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

There is no horsepower in a rail plug. These are repair and build parts: a correct seal at a given thread, or an adapter from one thread to another. The upgrade that protects your rails happens upstream. A healthy lift pump and filtration at the 3-micron rating FCA requires address two commonly cited stressors for CP4-family pumps, low supply pressure and contaminated fuel.

What we carry

Exergy Performance high-pressure fittings: the 1-018-133 M18x1.5 rail plug, the 1-018-132 M18x1.5 rail end to M14x1.5 adapter, the 1-018-129 M14x1.5 union, the 1-008-003 M14x1.5 three-way tee, the 1-018-043 M14x1.5 plug and nut rail cap, and the 1-018-149 and 1-018-148 M12x1.5 high-flow supply fittings to -8AN and -6AN.

Fitment notes

These are universal Exergy fittings filtered to this Ram 1500 EcoDiesel page, not EcoDiesel-specific part numbers. Confirm the thread size and pitch at the exact port you are working on, M18x1.5, M14x1.5 or M12x1.5, before you order. The M12x1.5 supply fittings carry a CP3 name, and the EcoDiesel uses a CP4.2, so check your pump's port. This page covers the 2014-2017 DS-body Ram 1500. The 2020-and-later EcoDiesel is a redesigned engine, and neither generation was offered in a Ram 2500 or 3500.

Frequently asked questions

What does metal in the fuel pressure regulator mean on an EcoDiesel?

NHTSA complaints document metal shavings in the fuel pressure regulator as a symptom of CP4.2 failure. Check whether recall 22V-406 has been done on your VIN, and have the rails, injectors and lines inspected, because the recall procedure treats them as possible debris carriers.

How much pressure do the EcoDiesel's fuel rails hold?

Up to 2,000 bar, about 29,000 psi, in both rails. That is why rail plugs and adapters need the correct thread and a clean sealing surface every time.

Are these Exergy fittings made specifically for the EcoDiesel?

No. They are universal high-pressure fittings listed here because they are used in rail and line work. Match the thread to your port, and call us if you are unsure which piece your job needs.
