Call or Text (352) 722-5295Drop-in turbos for the 2010-2018 RAM 6.7L Cummins
The factory turbo on the 6.7L Cummins is a single Holset variable-geometry unit feeding an air-to-air charge cooler. A drop-in here means a complete turbocharger that takes the place of that factory unit. Keep one thing in mind if you tow: on these trucks the exhaust brake is not a separate valve. It works by closing the VGT vanes, so whatever turbo goes in is also your exhaust brake. Check each listing for what it includes, whether an actuator comes with it, and which factory parts it reuses.
When it is time for a new turbo
Not every turbo complaint calls for a new turbo. Vanes stuck in soot, oil and ash cause lag, low boost and a weak exhaust brake, and the fix is disassembly and cleaning. A failed actuator is a separate module you can replace on its own. Pull the actuator and move the turbo's gear lever by hand: smooth travel of about an inch means the vanes move freely. A turbo is done when the core is hurt: leaking oil seals, damaged compressor or turbine wheels, or worn bearings. Oil in the intercooler piping, whine and shaft play are the signs.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
On a stock truck, a new or remanufactured stock-replacement turbo is the straight repair. If your actuator tests good, a turbo sold without an actuator lets you reuse it; if it has failed, buy the version with the actuator. Factory Holset actuators need a dealer-level scan tool to calibrate, while some aftermarket actuators self-calibrate. A performance turbo makes sense on a modified truck, where the factory turbo becomes the limit and an aftermarket unit reduces lag and adds airflow, especially with larger injectors. Before you buy a performance turbo, check its listing for emissions compliance status in your state.

Fitment notes
2010-2012 (HE351VE) and 2013-2018 (HE300VG) turbos and drop-in replacements are cataloged as separate parts and do not swap; Fleece and XDP each list year-specific part numbers. Chassis-cab 3500, 4500 and 5500 trucks often need different turbo parts than pickups, and BD Diesel lists a separate cab-chassis unit. Read the year range in every title: the EvilFab S400 billet turbo, for example, is titled for 2019-2024 trucks. Verify by VIN with the fitment checker before you order.
Frequently asked questions
Should I buy the XDP Xpressor with or without the actuator?
Test your actuator first. P00AF almost always means the actuator has failed, and a free-moving gear lever means the turbo's vanes are fine. If the old actuator is good, the without-actuator version saves you from replacing a working part; if it has failed, buy the with-actuator version and read the listing for calibration requirements.
Will a new turbo keep my exhaust brake working?
On these trucks the exhaust brake works by closing the VGT vanes, so it depends on the turbo. Stock-replacement VGTs are made to stand in for the factory unit. For any performance turbo, check the listing or call the shop before you assume the exhaust brake carries over.
Is a performance turbo worth it on a stock truck?
The factory turbo becomes the limit in performance applications, and the gains come when an aftermarket unit is paired with larger injectors. On a stock truck with a failed turbo, a stock replacement is the straightforward repair.
Do chassis-cab trucks need a different turbo?
Often, yes. Chassis-cab turbo and intake parts frequently differ from pickup parts. BD Diesel builds its 1045779 remanufactured turbo for 2013-2018 cab-chassis trucks, so give us your VIN if yours is a 3500, 4500 or 5500 chassis cab.
