2010-2018 Ram 6.7L Cummins Suspension Parts

This is the suspension collection for the 2010-2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 6.7L Cummins: shocks, leveling kits, lift kits, helper air springs, traction bars, sway bar parts and track bars. The one thing to know first is which chassis you have. Ram changed the frame and front end for 2013 and gave the 2500 a coil-sprung rear for 2014, so parts split by year and model.

Suspension on the 2010-2018 RAM 6.7L Cummins

Every fourth-generation Ram Heavy Duty rides on solid axles front and rear. Up front it is coil springs, with link-type axle location and a track bar on every year. Out back, the 2010-2013 2500 and every 3500 use leaf springs. For 2013, Ram moved the truck to a new frame with hydroformed main rails and fully boxed rear rails, fitted a wider and stronger front suspension, and upgraded the rear for 3.5-ton payloads. For 2014, the 2500 switched to a five-link coil rear that keeps the axle positioned on the taller truck, with rear air suspension available. The 3500 stayed on leaf springs, with rear air available there too. Whether you drive a Tradesman work truck, a Big Horn or a Laramie Longhorn, that layout decides which parts in this collection fit.

What fails and why

The front end is where these trucks wear out. The track bar bushings soften, the axle starts to shift side to side, and that slop is the leading cause of death wobble: a violent oscillation of the front axle at highway speed, usually set off by a bump. A clunk or pop over bumps is the early warning. On 2013 and newer trucks, one suspension engineering shop expects the factory track bar to need replacement at around 20,000 miles. Ball joints and tie rod ends rarely cause a wobble on their own, but play is cumulative. Several worn joints together bring wander and uneven tire wear and make a wobble easier to start. The track bar frame bracket was also recalled: 2015 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks were covered by 16V-559 for bracket weld failures, with popping and reduced steering response as the symptoms. On a 2015, confirm that recall work was done before you replace parts around it.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

If the truck sits at factory height and you want it to ride like it did new, a direct-fit shock for your exact model, drive and rear suspension is the right call. Once you add height or chase a wobble, the plan changes. A rigid aftermarket track bar, a good steering damper and heavier tires are the first fixes for wobble and wander. Any leveling or lift on the 2013-and-newer front end changes caster and track bar angle, so plan the track bar with the height change, not after it. Lifts on this platform also have to address steering geometry, not just height: one aftermarket 3-inch lift for 2013-2018 2500/3500 trucks was recalled (18E-096) for a weakened drag-link-to-knuckle joint. If your goal is carrying weight rather than adding height, Air Lift helper spring kits work with the factory springs, and traction bars or an anti-wrap rear shock address axle wrap and power hop.

What we carry

BDS Suspension handles the lift side: 2- through 8-inch kits, FOX 2.5 coil-over conversions, 4-link, radius-arm and long-arm versions, plus front brake line sets for 4-8 inch lifts and sway bar link and disconnect kits. Bilstein covers shocks in the B6 4600, B8 5100 and B8 5160 series, B8 5112 and B8 5162 leveling kits, and B12 front coil springs. Daystar Comfort Ride leveling kits come in 1-, 1.5- and 2-inch heights for 2WD and 4WD trucks. Air Lift brings LoadLifter 5000 and 7500XL helper spring kits, WirelessONE and WirelessAIR compressor systems, load controllers and air spring spacers. BD Diesel offers a traction bar kit and sway bar end links, and Wehrli Custom Fabrication has traction bar parts including bushing and heim kits. You will also find track bars, a Banks Power sway bar spacer kit and suspension hardware from Fleece Performance Engineering.

Fitment notes

Match four things before you order. Model and year come first: rear parts for the 2010-2013 2500 (leaf), the 2014-2018 2500 (five-link coil, with or without factory air) and the 2010-2018 3500 (leaf) do not cross. Lift and leveling kits split between 2013 and 2014 on the 2500 and between 2012 and 2013 on the 3500, which is why titles read like 2014/13 or 2003-2013/12: one year for each model. Rear air is next: trucks with factory rear air suspension need air-specific leveling and lift parts and rule out some other aftermarket parts. Then drive: many kits here are 4WD only. Last, cab and wheels: the 3500 came single or dual rear wheel, in Regular, Crew and Mega Cab. Chassis cab trucks share the engine but use different frames, so verify those separately. When in doubt, verify by VIN.

Frequently asked questions

What causes death wobble on a 2010-2018 Ram 2500 or 3500?

Most often the track bar. Its bushings soften, the axle shifts, and a bump at highway speed starts the shake. Worn ball joints and tie rod ends seldom start it alone, but their play adds up. A rigid track bar, a good steering damper and heavier tires are the first fixes.

Will a 2014-2018 Ram 2500 rear kit fit my 2012 2500?

No. The 2010-2013 2500 rides on rear leaf springs, and the 2014-2018 2500 uses a five-link coil rear. Rear shocks, springs and lift parts are built for one or the other, so check the year range in the title before you order.

My truck has factory rear air. Does that change what I can buy?

Yes. Factory rear air suspension needs air-specific leveling and lift components, and it rules out some other aftermarket parts. Look for titles that say Rear Air Ride or w/ Factory Air Suspension, and skip parts listed w/o Air.

Do I need a new track bar if I level or lift the truck?

On a 2013 or newer front end, plan on it. Raising the front changes caster and track bar angle, and a rigid track bar keeps the steering stable at the new height. The factory bar's bushings are already the most common wear point behind death wobble on these trucks.

Was the track bar bracket on these trucks recalled?

Yes, on 2015 models. Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks from that year were covered by recall 16V-559 for track bar frame bracket weld failures, with popping and reduced steering response as symptoms. A Ram dealer can check your VIN for open recalls.
